Used record stores, comic book shops and the like.

I was amazed when in 1997-98 I found 1 copy of the original trilogy on the shelf at Suncoast for $60. Sitting right next to the shiny new THX versions. This was long after it had been discontinued. I was pleased.

you mean those are actually worth something?

i have about 1200~ VHS tapes sitting in boxes in a storage room and in the attic. i know the SW sets are in there (orig trilogy and the ones lucas decided to add to and silly-up). i had plans on taking them all to goodwill or something.

worth the time to go through and sell some that may be collectible? forgive my n00bishness...i had no idea.

I dont really know that they are worth anything, Im just looking for them for a christmas present, they dont seem to go for much on ebay but I was hoping to find boxes that were of higher quality. If you can track down your set and are interested in selling them please let me know...

it's still hard to believe that you cant just buy these at Best Buy or something. I remember a few years ago, when the VHS trilogy they released at the time was touted as: "the last time you'll be able to buy the OT". I didnt believe it, but i bought them anyway, and I'm very glad i did.

I'm sorry I cant help you. I sympathize though. I feel the same way about the as-of-yet unreleased DVDs.

Fortunately I got into dvd when there was more of a demand for VHS and when you could get all your dvd's online for under $5. (97-98) So I took all my VHS but a few (Star Wars, Dances w Wolves extended) to a comic book shop and got $5-8 a piece for them.

I've got the original gift set (letterbox) pre Lucas changes. Comes in
a box with a 4th making of VHS and a book. How much would
this be worth now?

Nevermind, found my exact set here. Someone's asking for $30 and has ZERO bids. Ha!

Only reason I can see that getting low bids is because its pre-THX edition of the OT.

I just found a used Letterbox black case set of the originals at a used CD store for $9.99. I've already got one, so I might part with this one for a fair profit.

Wow. Years before DVD, I remember seeing that set at Media Play, saving up with giddy anticipation of owning Star Wars in widescreen, and finally buying it for over $100.

Well it's up to $54 with 4 bids now.

This is an older set of the OT that is letterboxed.

I've got the later THX "faces" trilogy set which is widesreen, contains an interview with Lucas on all three films, and comes in a sweet box...

...and I'll sell it all to you for $75 plus shipping

It's nearly identical to this; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=41656
But mine is opened, in excellent, near mint condition (I take very good care of my stuff)

I also have the SE widescreen if anyone's interested

May not be worth much anymore but I'm gonna hang on to all of mine. I have 1 of each set. OT Box, OT individual, THX WS, SE: WS, then I have a copy of each transferred from LD from a friend. That set actually, picturewise, looks the best(pre-SE).

Never did get that last version of the trilogy that came out when DVD was starting to get big. I figured I have enough versions to hold me over until the eventual DVD release.
