help with Geoffrey Rush films please
i absolutely love Geoffrey Rush, but i am ashamed to say that i just realized how little of his work i have seen. i've been a fan since Shine in '97, and my interest has been rekindled since the release of POTC this summer and again last week. it has sent me on a spree of watching some older movies that i own, with him in them, which i have thoroughly enjoyed again.
my favorites are easily Quills, Shine, and because of the newness (and sheer fun!) of POTC, that one as well. others that i have seen and loved are: Elizabeth, Les Mis, and Shakespeare In Love. i did not much care for The Tailor of Panama, mainly because it tended to put me to sleep, hehe. Nemo was great, but that's voice only, of course. my request is this: which of his films not mentioned above are worth looking for to purchase or rent, or did any of them stand out to you as superb movies? and if possible, perhaps a sentence or two of review on them, please? :) GEOFFREY RUSH FILMOGRAPHY -- • Ned Kelly (2004) • Creepshow / House on Haunted Hill 2-Pack (2003) • Finding Nemo (2003) • Intolerable Cruelty (2003) • Mercury (2003) • Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) • The Banger Sisters (2002) • Frida (2002) • Lantana (2001) • The Tailor of Panama (2001) • Quills (2000) • House on Haunted Hill (1999) • Mystery Men (1999) • Elizabeth (1998) • Les Miserables (1998) • A Little Bit of Soul (1998) • Shakespeare in Love (1998) • Children of the Revolution (1997) • Shine (1997) • Twisted (1997) • Children of the Revolution (1996) |
I thought your filmography just had wrong dates - on closer examination, they look more like years of home video release in America. "Mercury" was back in '96.
IMDb films he's been in, sorted by ratings |
ah, you are correct. guess "feeling lucky" on google this morning wasn't so lucky. :) thanks for the better list.

House on Haunted Hill is pretty crappy horror if you ask me, but he dies have a big role. His role in Frida is small, but I think it's a good movie. Mystery Men I liked, he's the bad guy in that one too. I've only seem part of Latana. And I think you hit the rest already that I've seen

Lantana I liked a lot, anthony lapaglia is great in it.
I also enjoyed Frida for salma :D Tailor of Panama was just okay, probably wait until its on HBO . |
Intolerable Cruelty isn't great but, even though his part is small, Geoffrey Rush is pretty good in it (the funniest scene doesn't include him, but most of the other best stuff in the movie does).

I too highly recommend Lantana.

Yet another vote for Lantana.

Mystery Men was goofy fun. Casanova Frankenstein!

Geoffrey Rush is a great actor, I think his portrayal of DeSade in Quills was the best performance of 2000, maybe even the new millenium.
|
Lantana is such an excellent film, and hinges on fine performances by all.
|
If you like offbeat humor, I thought Rush was great in "Mystery Men." But not everyone likes this kind of humor.
|
I would like to see him have another strong lead role like Quills. His performance in Quills is one of the best in years and he was robbed of the Oscar by Russel Crowe. I wasn't a huge fan of Shine. He usually seems to take very small supporting roles. He does a pretty good job in Lantana which I see for dirt cheap at about every DVD rental place I go to.

I appreciate the feedback from everyone. :) I also agree with both CitizenKane and cloudburst -- Quills was grand, and Rush was just superb in it. It is a film that never tires with re-watches.
My "To Get" list now includes: Lantana and Mystery Men; with Frida and Intolerable Cruelty as future rentals. edit -- Just adding, for the Quills fans here, didn't you just love the little Pyromaniac guy, Dauphin? He was absolutely one of my favorite background characters in the movie, hehe. :D |
