Tom Cruise or Toshiro Mifune?

or

Who's the better samurai? I think this is a no-brainer but I want to see the results.

It's completely unfair for me to vote, since I won't be seeing The Last Samurai, but I voted anyway. Toshiro it is, Toshiro it must be.

Kinda reminds me of that Quizno's radio commercial pitting "Ninja warriors" against accountants. To spell it out more clearly Mifune would be the ninjas.

Mifune's relationship to Kurosawa is like Robert DeNiro is to Scorsese, Peter Sellers is to Kubrick, Max Von Sydow is to Bergman, John Wayne to Ford, or Marcello Mastrioanni to Fellini. And not even these heady icons IMO can chew scenery like Mifune.

How can you pose such a question?
The answer is quite clear.
Few now come greater than Toshiro Mifune.

Is it, though?

Spoiler:
Cruise dons the samurai gear, rides and fights with the samurai, and has begun to live by (some of) their rules. After Watanabe's character kills himself on the battlefield, Tom Cruise would technically be "the last samurai" alive. Because all the others were killed in the last stand. Just how I took it, anyway.

Anyway, I think the answer to the question at hand is obvious: Tom Cruise. Definitely Tom Cruise.

...kidding.

He did do an excellent job, maybe good enough to get a tip of the hit from Mifune, but to compete with him? Not even in the same league.

Oh yeah. And the obligatory Samurai pic

The only thing Cruise has in common with ancient samurai is a total height of 5' 1".
