If you haven't figured it out by now after reading all of this thread (presumably), you aren't going to.

Move on.

Just a space-filler article written for a slow-news day.

Or, if you'd bothered to look, it was a regular column in the newpaper's technology section, which is not affected by a "slow news day."

It's threads like this one that sometimes make me embarrassed to be a member of DVD Talk. This guy has been called an idiot, dumbass, stupid, moron, a sheep, sickening, and on crack.

All because no one here knows the meaning of the phrase "tongue in cheek."

It's because we hate the New York Times. He deserves all that and more because he works for a suck newspaper.

I've found that, by having three movies "out" at a time, there's usually at least one of them that I want to watch at any given time. I try to manipulate my queue in such a way that I have a balance - one disk of a TV show or recent Hollywood movie, one mainstream Hollywood classic, and one foreign film out at a time... For instance, right now I've got Nashville, Mauvais Sang, and I've put Possession in the mail today to go back.

As far as people buying movies they "should have" instead of what they "want to see", I buy movies based on three criteria - how much I like them, how often I'll want to see them over and over again, and how hard they are to find in a rental store. In other words, if the choice is between buying Die Hard and Boudu Saved From Drowning, I buy the latter because I can rent the former almost anywhere.
