Underrated Films

In contrast to the "Overated Films" thread, I would like to hear about some good films that perhaps have not gotten the exposure/praise that they deserve. To borro . . . er . . . levera . . . oh screw it . . . STEAL . . . the opening form the "Orverrated Films" thread . . .

"Which films do you think are underrated? I'm talking mainstream films and cult films. I think this would be interesting to see which films people feel are underrated."

I'll start us off with just one (I'm sure I'll think of some more later :D ):

My Blue Heaven - a classic comedy that is clean, intelligent, and enjoyable. Fantastic performances by Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Joan Cusack, and Bill Irwin. And yet so many people have never even heard of it. :(

Full Metal Jacket
Everyone is so damned dismissive of the second half, it drives me nuts. Watch the rhyming and repetition between both halves, in dialogue, music, and mise-en-scene. They're meant to be at odds with each other, thus the similarities that pop up become even more important.

And good call on My Blue Heaven. I've enjoyed it since it first came out.

I always thought THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED (recently released on DVD) starring Natalie Wood and Robert Redford was an underrated flick. Directed by Pollack, co-written by Coppola, it has been described as trashy, but I've enjoyed it for years. (It helps considerably that Natalie Wood is drop-dead gorgeous in it.)

Big Man on Campus - One of the funniest never seen movies out there. In the same vain of How I Got Into College, but better IMO.

Shakes the Clown - What is not to love about The Citizen Kane of Alcoholic Clown Films?

Desperate Hours - I have seen people give scathing reveiws to this Rourke/Hopkins remake, but I love it.

Igby Goes Down - The best film I have seen in the last 3 years.

Saving Silverman. critics hated it, movie-goers avoided it (or hated it)... me and my gf LOVE it. guess the humor just "works" for me. Jason Biggs wasnt the greatest in the flick, but the rest of the cast was great IMO. Gotta love the r-rated version on dvd too. :D
