The Human Stain

I don't have a lot to say about The Human Stain other than I enjoyed it and was intrigued throughout the film.

The premise is a little bit hard to buy but there's such great actors in all the roles that it didn't much matter.

Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Gary Sinise & Ed Harris.

Harris is absolutely frightening as Kidman's ex-husband in
the movie.

There is a young actor, Wentworth Miller I think, that plays Hopkin's character as a young man, and he's terrific in the role.

anybody else seen this yet?

I've seen it.

All right...not great, perhaps bordering good.

Boring, yes, boring at times. But good casting on Harris. Nicole Kidman is obviously too swept up in her oscar, she overacts.

It left me a little empty.....rent it, don't pay to watch it in the theater. Just my advice.

This appeared to be Oscar bait, but I surprised to see a quote from Hopkins where he admitted that he didn't think it was too good. The reviews haven't been all that favorable either.

The only thing about this movie that interests me at all is seeing Jacinda Bare-it.

It is a good film, but not a great film. The acting is fine, but I wouldn't say its oscar worthy, though the performances do the job for the movie. The movie itself is the problem, even though it appears to be oscar-bait and this terrific film with the people involved, the film comes off as just a small little film that doesn't have many things happen in it. It moves at a not-so-rapid pace, but I was never bored by it as Hopkins, Kidman, and Harris are so fun to watch.

I am surprised its only in 125 theaters, I would think Miramax would want to market this movie better because of Nicole Kidman and Anthony Hopkins are pretty popular. And it has only done like 2.2 million. I'd give it a solid ***/****

So is this going to open wide at all? I don't understand the limited two weeks either....and despite the lukewarm reception, i'm very curious to see it. I'm going to be out of town on business next week in a very boring place, and I usually see a few movies while there....i'm hoping this will be playing....

I caught this at the local art house last night. I remember seeing a preview for it months back, playing up the jealous husband angle to make it look like some thriller.

The movie started off really well, then began sinking for me as the story never seemed to kick into gear. About every twenty minutes or so there would be some scene that would make me think 'They probebly could have started the movie right here'. Only to have not much happen and then another scene like that turn up elsewhere.

I don't know what Gary Sinese's charcter added to the film.

I knew nothing about this movie going in. I think that I may have liked it better if I had known the 'twist' ahead of time. That way I could have just bought it for the sake of the movie. Instead I was caught off guard by how the actor playing the young Coleman looked/moved/sounded nothing like Hopkins. 'Why does Coleman have an accent and this kid dosen't?' I was wondering. By the time the revelation was made I had completely tuned out of the movie.

The only other thing that surprised me was the amount of people who showed up for the Sunday night showing. The theater (a small one, but still) was closed to packed. Someone must be talking about this film.
