Favorite Bogart film?
Anyone have a favorite Humphrey Bogart film? Like my user-name suggests, my favorite Bogie film is The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), which also happens to be my second favorite film of all-time! Honorable mention goes to The Maltese Falcon (1941). Probably my second favorite actor, next to Vincent Price, of course.

I went for the Black Bird. It was a hard choice between that and Casablanca.
Lyle, maybe you can answer my question about the character in the flophouse scene in TotSM? The guy at the foot of Howard's bed looks and sounds to me like Jason Robards (Sr?). Do you know if it's him uncredited?

What, no " The Return Of Dr. X"?? (An ill advised attempt to make Bogie a horror movie villain from the 1930s) [http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0031851/]
I'd have to go with African Queen, I love many of Bogart's movies but I think Queen holds a special place in my heart, with "Sierra Madre" probably a close #2.

Casablanca is a seminal film, but overrated in the scope of things. I'm with you on the Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I've only recently gotten into Bogey, but this is a tour de force performance. But he is just a pure joy to watch, and I've loved everything I"ve seen but "The African Queen". I don't get what the hype about that thing is all about these days. I could see it being a technolgoical marvel for it's time, but it's downright laughable cuts and hammy acting leave me cold. But Bogey is the best part of that movie. I just wish he would have cleaned Kate's clock when she
What a rude ass thing to do

I'm going with "Maltese Falcon." I dno't think it's a better film than Casablanca, but I think Bogey's performance was more nuanced.
Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a close third.

It's tough but I'm going with To Have and Have Not - now i just need time to watch the DVD. The chemistry between Bogart and Bacall was just awesome as was the dialogue. Casablanca is an extremely close 2nd.

The Maltese Falcon, with about a dozen films running a close second.

Key Largo is probably my favorite Bogey film... Followed by The Maltese Falcon and Sierre Madre.

Maltese Falcon very narrowly over Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

TOTSM followed by African Queen. Casablanca is pretty damn amazing as well. I haven't seen Maltese Falcon for years, but I remember liking it. I've never seen any of the others.
