Bad Santa

The trailer for Bad Santa was shown before Scary Movie 3 this weekend , there was a lot of laughs in the beginning, and then John Ritter came on the screen and the theater when silent except for a few awwws. It was kind of sad. The movie looks ok.
Anyone else have a similar experience for this trailer ?

Yeah, when John Ritter shows up, there's a lump in my throat. Sad.

Otherwise, I plan on seeing it because I like the idea, and the trailer was done pretty well.

I didn't think the trailer was much cop, but the film itself will probably be much, much better. There's probably a lot that they had to tone down/replace for a trailer to make it look more like a family film.

I saw the trailer before Kill Bill: Vol. 1 last weekend, and it seemed like a really bad formula film--cute kid saves soul of grown-up loser. I think we've seen this already recently, except it was called The School of Rock (and by the looks of things, Rock does it much better).

This is directed by Terry Zwigoff, and so I am hoping it is awesome.

It's rated R, it's directed by Terry Zwigoff, and it's produced by the Coens. I don't think it's gonna end up being a formula movie.

And it has the beautiful Lauren Graham.

I think it looks hilarious - can't wait.

The use of a kid and a bad man seems very cliche. But, execution is paramount here. And I hope Terry Zwigoff is up to the challenge. I liked "Ghost World" and if it's as quirky as that, then it might be worth seeing.

The trailer reminded me of Disney's The Kid, only for adults.

Rated R for pervasive language, strong sexual content and some violence.
wow, that doesn't seem like the trailer at all. it looked like surely a pg13 movie.

That was a big selling point to the trailer for me. Honestly, when I read about this awhile back I thought it sounded terrible (although I had some hope because of the filmmakers). I was impressed with the trailer... there are formula touches in there but regardless it's pretty funny.

The trailer was really bad, then I read that it was a film by terry zwigoff.
So I scratch my head.

That's what I kept telling myself after I saw the preview. It looks like a movie I wouldn't even consider seeing (I can perfectly picture a caption at the end of the trailer saying 'A New Film By Ron Howard'), but I have a theory of 'The better a movie is, the worse the trailer will look'. I remember the first trailer I saw for Pulp Fiction made it look terrible!

Sorta off-topic.... but I thought that Zwigoff was writing another movie with Clowes. Based on his Art School Confidential strip. I wonder if this is still supposed to be happening.

The film is definitely greenlit and casting has been going on, but I don't know how it will turn out. The screenplay excerpts I have read weren't promising, but then again, it is Clowes and Zwigoff and they're probably going to tweak and revise and polish it into something really fine.

Bad Santa

This looks really funny, but I find it odd that little attention it has being recieving. With the holidays and its release date around the corner (Nov. 26th) you think we would start to hear more about it. Anyone know more about this or seen an advance screening/reviews?

since this is rated R, i doubt many parents are gonna take their kids to see it (unless they don't know about the rating)

I'm surprised at how differently this movie is being marketed on TV and in the theater. The trailer seemed to focus on an obnoxious little boy who helps turn Thorton's character into a better person, as if that was the main focus of the movie. The TV ads I saw this weekend didn't show the child (or love interest) at all, marketing it as some sort of vulgar comedic heist.

drudgereport has a write up about it. Apparently the Disney execs are fuming that miramax is giving disney a bad name.

Too late. Song of the South already did that for them.

I find that hard to believe, considering 1) All the awards Miramax has won for the studio, and 2) The long track record of horror movies released by Dimension without a word said about them.
