Good news. I think it was dumb enough when they hyped Halle as the sidekick. What did Jinx do that hadn't been done before by Michelle Yeoh, Mayday, or any of the other 'badass' Bond girls? Why not have a Denise Richards spinoff while you're at it?

From IMBD (not the most accurate news source, but still) comes this: Berry in Fury Over Axed Spin-Off Actress Halle Berry is fuming after movie bosses axed her plans to make a film based on the character she played in James Bond movie Die Another Day. The Oscar-winning screen star played sexy CIA agent Jinx in the movie alongside 007 Pierce Brosnan, and was desperate to portray the character again in a franchise of spin-off action films. But now the project has been spectacularly canceled by studio chiefs, much to the disgust of the 37-year-old actress. An insider says, "Halle is absolutely furious. She thought she was going to become the female James Bond in a series of films. Now it's been canceled with little explanation." Executives at MGM made the decision over the weekend and have instructed Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to stop developing the movie. |
Female James Bond? Puh-leeze. I'm not a Halle-hater per se but I'm glad this one isn't plugging up the movie highway. I'll wait and see how Catwoman progresses.

Seems reasonable. Brosnan's not getting any younger and chances are another Brosnan Bond would make a helluva lot more than a Jinx flick. Also, the female action movies have been underperforming (Charlies Angel, Kill Bill (sorta), Womb Raider) lately. Get the money first, then take risks.

I wish they would've made it so we could watch it bomb (especially with her female Bond statement). Guess some studio heads still have brains.

Halle Hater here. Glad they are canning it but would much rather them can Catwoman.
Actually I wish they wouldn't can it. Then maybe it would bomb and everyone would blame her and she would get a nice slap to the ol' ego. Then again you run the risk of it actually doing well and having sequels. Just thinking out loud. |
