Box office predictions 10/17-19

Will it be Chainsaw or Runaway Jury? Boxofficeguru is predicting that Jury will take the weekend while Entertainment Weekly thinks that Chainsaw will walk away with as much as $27 million (I can't quite see it myself). Post your predictions for place and box office take here...

I don't see Runaway Jury doing that well. I mean, it's got a good cast but does anyone actually want to see this? I'd guess more like 15 million. Texas might push 20, and Kill Bill...prolly down to 12 million. Those are my predictions!

Kill Bill stays at No. 1 just 'cause I'm gonna see it this weekend.

Do yourselves a favor and buy the Runaway Jury book instead of the movie ticket.

Runaway Jury finishes first...but it won't be a "runaway"... Kill Bill will be a respectable second, probably only a few million behind Jury. Mystic River will be further down the list...maybe fourth or fifth. School of Rock should place a solid third. Texas Chainsaw will make about the same as Mystic River.

Texas takes one, mid 20's.
Runaway second with 15-17.
Kill Bill takes a dive to about 11-13.

the predictions I've heard:

1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre - high teens to low twenties (Def #1)
2. Runaway Jury - low to mid teens
3. School of Rock - 29% drop off from last weekend.
3. Kill Bill - 50%+ drop off from last weekend, you do that math (I hope not. But it's typical for R rated action movies.)

sooo... everyone go see Kill Bill again

I say TCM pulls ahead. Kill bill comes in second and runaway jury third.

For the weekend, looks like Texas Chainsaw Massacre will make 25-30 mil. Kill Bill will nab about 13-14 mil. Runaway Jury will get about 12-14 mil, maybe 10 mil for River.

I just find it really depressing for some reason that TCM is going to make more than Kill Bill in its first week. Funny because they're both outrageously violent movies, but one I loved and the other - Chainsaw - was godawful. KB deserves to make a lot more than Chainsaw IMHO, perhaps in the long run it will.

I know for certain that there are people who feel the complete opposite of you, that Kill Bill deserves to make two dollars and TCM deserves to take in mean dough....but its all opinion.

I disliked both flicks, but that the way the cookie crumbles, no need to make any comments on the decline of society because of it.

You really can't say you are surprised by this. TCM has a strong cult following. they will go just to see it much like I will be seeing DAWN OF THE DEAD opening weekend though I am disliking the trailer a little. it's about general interest to see if it's the same or not.

then you have all those who haven't ever seen TCM who want to jump on the bandwagon or seem cool. either way TCM has a large draw, of course it will take 1st. Kill Bill is old, it's targeted towards both a niche market as well as the general public, but the general public wont get as many references the film is paying homage of to warrent great word of mouth and so of course you'll see a major drop. everyone who was going to see it, has already. you are just getting second time watchers now and so forth.

then you have the picture that wasn't popularly hyped and marketed. Runaway Jury.. Well it's simple to say that this film already has a niche market to cover which wont get it all at once anyhow. much like second hand lions, this is going to move slowly but surely.

Well, no... but I cling pathetically to my optimistic yet snobbish belief that the great unwashed masses will spontaneously develop some kind of artistic taste one fine day..

The fact that TCM made almost $30 million and Mystic River only made $10 million says a lot about the average movie-goer, doesn't it?

And here I thought all those duds this summer were an indication that the movie-going public was "wising-up". Well, there goes that theory...

Well it is Halloween time and these kinds of movies sell, regardless if they are crap or not! But which movie do you think will be mentioned during Oscar time!

I know at the theater i work at TCM,Runaway Jury, and School of Rock all sold out Friday and Saturday night(shows after 6pm and that includes the midnite shows). TCM being the most impressive since it played on three screens. But i was shocked at SoR since this is the third week in release.

Mystic River was playing in half the theaters that TCM was. It was the only other movie that had a relatively high per-screen average.
