You can just casually walk around the zombies and push them out of your way. To a more sophisticated taste, huge quantities of slow moving zombies are most certainly scary...even terrifying. Slow moving zombies have something that the sprinters in the the trailer don't.... tension, suspense. A zombie comes flying out of nowhere, pounces on a human and devours him... that's good for a split-second cheap startle, but that's it....and more reminiscent of slasher flicks. But the slow, methodical, relentlessness of the shambling undead hoards generates that edge-of-the-seat feeling that is missing from today's films. |

You can just casually walk around the zombies and push them out of your way. Don Zimmer could dominate those zombies, even. The only times the zombies were even remotely frightening in the original films were when they ganged up, and surprised some poor person ( Ex: Barbara being pulled out of the house by the zombies, The white cop in Dawn Of The Dead being bitten on the leg ). Now, the running zombies that came out of nowhere in a group and tackled people in Return Of The Living Dead. Those guys WERE scary. Not as scary as Ving Rhames' biceps, but still scary. As for Sessa17's comment. Clockers, Paid In Full, 8 Mile, and O are all DECENT movies with M-e-k-h-i P-h-i-f-e-r. Oh, and I'm 22, I think this looks entertaining, and have seen the original Romero trilogy. Enjoyable stuff. Nothing to get worked up over. |
pretty bad trailer.
DOTD was an epic. This film looks like cheese galore. |
It's a teaser trailer, so I can't be to judgemental, but Thumbs Down!
Hideous, give me RE: Apocalypse anytime over this. |
I'm afraid today's audiance doesn't have time for tension or suspense. :(
Even if it's a slow moving zombie, if say the hero goes into a dark room, creeping slowly then Bam zombie comes out of the blind cornor it creates the same scare that a fast dashing zombie might create. A massive crowd of zombies running at you is not the same as a slow moving horde of shambling zombies, dim witted with the basics in mind. eat fleash. You know they want to eat your fleash and the numbers themselves show that they will win. it's all about being stuck. being alone and pretty much running as much as you can, but still eating it because no matter were you go, they are there. |

..My two cents
I have seen DOD tons of times...including midnight showings and the original release in theatres as kid. I would rather have new zombie movies then none at all to watch...if some of them make money then a guy like Romero will have more opportunity for funding a new one too. I liked 28 days..even Resident Evil to some extent. If the new Dawn of the Dead makes money...that is good for fans. Zombies running seems lame but Return of the Living Dead hordes was kinda cool . I will remain open until I see the movie-looks like they are trying to make it a lot different then the original-otherwise why would we want to see it? Remember the awful Psycho remake?I'll take a "running zombies" movie over
stupid teens in trouble with killer movies anyday. |
I do like the use of the Sparklehorse song. "It's a wonderful life..."
|
I can't believe somebody just argued that they have a more "sophisticated taste" because they prefer slow-moving zombies to fast zombies. Get over yourselves, people.
|
This will suck.
DOTD is the Citizen Kane of zombie films. Might as well be Creed covering The Beatles. It can't be done. And before anyone says, "you need to see it before you pass judgement", no... No I don't. |

Night of the Living Dead90, Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, etc. haven't given producers the incentive to make a quality zombie film... the result... swill like House of the Dead and now this Dawn remake... As long as they can pack theatres by producing crappy films, there will be no incentive to produce quality ones. |

I agree with Sracer, if the success of 28 days later hasn't pushed the studios to support Romero's work (on his fourth zombie film) then I doubt anything really will.

I can only hope everyone on the board will take the time to discuss this very thought provoking issue as this board has been lacking in some serious discussion on film. |
A friend of mine was an extra in this. When I showed him the trailer and mentioned my dislike for the fast moving zombies, he said those were the "super zombies". Apparently, some move slow like "real" zombies should and others move fast.
|
I am so there!!!
I didn't know my man Ving was in this  Personally, I think Zombie movies should have a mix of zombie types. Some slow, others fast, some dismembered, others with all their arms and legs. I NEVER liked the stupid clown zombies of the original Dawn. I always fealt George should of taken out the gtoofy scenes. |

I remember when everyone said WTF Michael Keaton as Batman?
Then everyone crying about how the sequals sucked compared to the first one :). We shall see...looking forward to seeing a more complete trailer for this. |

If this stinkeroo of a remake were called something else, then I (and most other Dawn fans) wouldn't have a problem with the film. But then again, if it were called, "Crouching Human, Hidden Zombie" we wouldn't still be discussing it. And THAT was their purpose for the film's title in the first place....to generate interest beyond what the merits of the film warranted. |

Originally posted by Sessa17 Shut off 8 mile about 20 minutes into it (a movie about kids rather than getting an education, look towards rap as there salvation, spare me), slept through 0, wanted Clockers to be good but it wasn't, & haven't seen paid in full & don't plan to. Anf I'm so sorry I don't know how to spell an actor with a weird name that I'm not even a fan fun, thank for correcting that. The topic is about a poor looking remake of one of my all-time favorite movies so I think it's understandable for somebody to get worked up over the subjuect. But you know what isn't understanable * & make one really look like a "complete dweeb". When they post a very lengthy message just whining about someone stating there opinion, & then at the ended of posting there message that they clearly got worked up enough to take the time to post there ranting message. The then tell the original person "nothing to get worked up over":D |

What it is is that the newly dead zombies can move quickly. Their bodies haven't had time to really stiffen up. The long time dead zombies are the slower moving ones.
I can't wait, and I'm a huge fan of the original. It's my favorite horror movie of all time. This is not a remake of the original, it looks like a different version altogether. Therefore, I won't be going in with an judgements. |
