Begotten...Who's seen it?

Just watched Shadow of the Vampire and they showed the trailer for Begotten which to some degree inspired Shadow of the Vampire. Never heard of it until now and a search only has it come up on the bizarre movie lists. I added it to my netflix queue but not really sure I want to see it. The trailer reminded me of The Ring scenes that showed what was on the tape. The more I think about it, the less I want to watch it, but at the same time, my curiosity is getting to me. What do my fellow DVD talkers think of this flick?

I rented this film because I like surrealism. But I did not care for the movie. There is no dialouge in the film. From what i remember its all ambient noise and image. Granted, some of the imagery is striking, but, I don't know how quite to describe how this was filmed or how they got the look. Maybe someone else can describe it better. This movie makes Eraserhead look like a normal movie. Its about 70 or 80 minutes long as well. Its probably worth a look if you are a fan of the bizarre, but I can't honestly say that its a great film.

I was also somewhat under whelmed buy this movie. The first 5 minutes were really cool and disturbing, but the rest was sorta boring. So many people say this is one of the most bizarre movies ever. I disagree. I think it's so far beyond the typical definition of a "movie" that it no longer seems weird. For a movie to be truly strange, there needs to be hints of normalcy to contrast the strangeness. It's more like looking at an abstract painting than watching something like, say, Eraserhead, which frames its weirdness around real characters and even a plot.

But if you are interested in experimental, surrealistic film, then you might enjoy this. Just don't expect it to be the most disturbing thing you've ever seen.

They should release that film with comedy dubbing...

I "saw" (opposed to being able to ascertain what exactly is happening) part of it way back when it came out on video, but my VCR barfed thirty minutes in.

I got this about two years ago and can say that it is awfully interesting to look at for about 10 minutes -- it's basically just a big student film. The liner notes are terribly pretentious, though.

Here is the opening sequence for those interested.

And to think that's the scene that's easiest to understand in the movie.
http://www.fantasticdamage.com/blog/emot-dance.gif Glad I got it when I did. It's OOP now.

Yeah I think it's going for around 75 bucks or so on EBAY nowadays.

It wasn't worth it. Soak some cheesecloth in chocolate syrup and slap a person with it it for an hour (or so it seemed) and throw in some twigs. Carry the chocolate syrup guy four feet and repeat. It means something, but I don't fuckin' care.

Kudama: There's hardcore nudity about two minutes later.

It's one of my favorite films...

...to buy several copies of and make a killing on eBay. :) It has some cool parts, as far as experimental film goes, but not $75 worth. The chapter descriptions are meant to lead you through the "story," but they don't match up to the chapters on the DVD.

It was one of my gateway movies to pr0n, I gotta give it that. But, I'm hooked on the hard stuff now and have higher tolerance.
