JC, that pirates is still up there pulling in numbers, man when the movie was first announced, everyone said it would suck since its about pirates and is based on a ride at disneyland, now look at it.

I didn't think Pirates would have such staying power before the movie was released. Very impressive run for a solid movie.

What the hell is an estiment? :hscratch: ;)

Im glad to see PotC do so well. Im suprised how well Freaky Friday is doing also. Poor Freddy vs. Jason. It dropped 5 places.

Freddy vs. Jason is like the suprise hit of the summer. Trust me, they're laughing all the way to the bank. I can't believe how well that movie has done...crazy.

POTC is doing great, gonna be a HUGE DVD sale as well. They're gonna make like $1 billion worldwide with theatre and DVD sales. That is something.

And Freaky Friday looks to cross $100 million. Looks like Disney had a pretty f'in good summer. Good marketing strategies as well...

It may have dropped 5 places but it just about tripled it's budget on it's box office take. New Line is laughing all the way to the bank, and they will probably line up there again when the DVD hits.

I'm amazed at how well Pirates is still doing as well. Nice outing for JC - considering all the negative reviews (then again, I suppose teenagers don't look much at reviews anyway).

The funny thing about this week's chart is how many of the films that are kicking butt were movies that seemed like dogs or at the very least underwhelming when summer started.

Pirates of the Caribbean
Pre: A pirates movie! It's based on a theme park ride! It's gotta suck!
Post: One of the most entertaining flicks of the summer, a return to when summer movies were fun and not just an assault on the senses.

Freddy vs Jason
Pre: They're both old news! Only fanboys will see this!
Post: Will more than triple it's budget, plus it managed to entertain a lot of people outside the core fanbase, resuscitating two franchises for New Line.

Freaky Friday
Pre: Another body switch movie! And a remake! Bomb!
Post: Reviews were very positive, and it'll clear $100 mil before cleaning up on home video.

SWAT
Pre: Based on a old tv show. Nothing special.
Post: Clearing $100 million, with great potential as a franchise that people will actually WANT to see continue.

Open Range
Pre: Kevin Costner=bomb. Westerns are dead.
Post: Holding on nicely from week to week, with good reviews and word of mouth. Proves Costner's career isn't dead yet (but he's still on probation).

Seabiscuit
Pre: It'll get good reviews, but noone is gonna see a movie about a horse in the summertime.
Post: $100 mil+ should ensure it's not completely forgotten come Oscar time.

Italian Job
Pre: A remake starring Marky Mark! Crap!
Post: Turned out to be another fun film that slowly edged it's way near $100 mil, getting a rare re-release to help it past the mark.

Some other surprises:

Gigli
Pre: Man, this movie's going to suck
Post: Man, this movie sucks

.....(sorry, had to throw in one last Gigli joke before it goes into the "old news, bad joke" vault) :)
