It's possible that the Catholic church won't like the film either. I think people are forgetting that Gibson is a hardline traditionalist. Read this from an editorial on About.com:

But that is exactly how a lot of people think (or don't think) these days, even ones that can't type in complete sentences. And anti-Christianity is a far larger "movement" so-to-speak in America than anything resembling anti-Semitism.

The media and the left love the simplicity of labels, so the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (blacks), Trent Lott (Republicans), John Ashcroft (Pentecostal), etc. become the representative "voice" of their constituents. It's a lot simpler and easier to push agendas that way. In fact, just look at Garrison's post below -- he loves grouping everyone together under the same heading.

Did "Last Temptation of Christ" have a problem getting picked up by a major studio(i know it had a lot of people who was agaisnt it before they ever saw it, but i didn't know about the studios). I was only 12 at the time so i wasn't really paying attention. That wasn't really based on the bible, but i will say that in certain scenes Willim Dafoe played the Best Jesus i've ever seen in a film.

I really don't know the specifics on LTOC, but it basically was protested by everyone, seen by no one, and Scorsese had a hell of a time getting it made. These religious movies seem to get everyone's panties in a bunch, but few people actually go and see them.

You are probably right. The controversy surrounding this picture will generate migraines for any company that distributes the movie and grief for theaters who exhibit the film. I'm hoping...and willing to bet...that Miramax picks this one up. It's just the kind of risky movie they like to pick up, and it could prove to be their big Oscar picture push for this year.

from what I hear, the cost of the flick is around $25 million. I think this controversy only fuels the interest, and it should easily make it's money back through the theaters and DVD sales.

I for one, won't pick it up or see it. I have no interest in Gibson's religious preference and him wanting to use movie's as a way to preach it. Same with Travolota's 'Battlefield Earth'.

Why not try actually READING some of the articles first? Like it or not, a LARGE NUMBER (many millions) of Evangelical Christians think exactly what I accused them of thinking. If you want to split hairs and claim that they are "not Christians" because their views don't fit your premise of what a Christian is supposed to beleive, go right ahead. But not only do they concider themselves Christians, there are the single most outspoken group of Christians in the US and arguably the world.
