familiar with Guy and Dolls gangster-speak?

is Guys and Dolls the first or major influence for having gangsters speak without contractions?
Traditional gangster-speak is "youse guys," "dat ain't right," etc., but in G&D, the conversation is forcefully proper: "We would very much appreciate your accompanying us to the docks so that we may whack you."
This is done by the Fat Tony character on The Simpsons, also, but I'm wondering if G&D did it first.....
