I didn't get that joke for about 10 years.
I remember watching Benny Hill religiously because you would always catch an eye full of Boobs at some point in time on rabbit ear tv no less.

I've got a Zod quote that confused me as a child too, only this one was from the first film. When Zod and the two other Kryptonians are being sentenced by Jor-El and the council, Zod threatens that he will get back at Jor-El, and one day, "your heirs." As a child, though, I had no concept of what an heir was, so I assumed for many years he said "your ass." Damn that accent on Terrance Stamp.

Anyway, technically it's a five-year bump, on a thread that had legs already.

But I guess I'm not a cool forum member.

(That said, the reason for the bump WAS a little odd ...)

At any rate, not really about not getting something as a kid, but having my mother take me to see Porky's when I was 12 basically scarred me for life.

Re: stuff in movies you didn't get as a kid, but do now?

Not a movie, but I'm perpetually finding new stuff to laugh at when I go back to early seasons of The Simpsons on DVD.

Mostly just references I had no context for when I first viewed the episodes upon airing when I was a little kid. Hell, the first time I saw the monorail episode I had no concept of what The Music Man was, so the entire parody was lost on me. I just loved the song and laughed at the shallow-level humor.

Sadly, at/around Season 10 and beyond, all there is w/The Simpsons is shallow-level humor...yet, I didn't find myself laughing at it.

Airplane! for me. When I was young I just thought all the lines by the pilot to the young boy were just random meaningless lines.

Then I learned what sexual innuendo is...

"Joey, have you ever been in a... in a Turkish prison? "

The Falcon and the Snowman

Saw it as a kid, didn't understand anything about it. I had no concept of the cold war.
I remember wondering what the lead character did that was so wrong

Magnum Force

Watched this with my parents when it came on TV. I thought Clint Eastwood was the bad guy because he was shooting policemen.

Lethal Weapon 3. Murtagh gets cut shaving. Riggs sees the cut and asks "old razor"? Murtagh replies "old face". I THOUGHT it went like this... Riggs: "all razor"? Murtagh: "all face". I thought it was some kind of reference to shaving that I didn't understand (I was around 16 when I saw it).

Another one is Down and Out in Beverly Hills. I was watching this with my mother and Bette Midler got a massage by Nick Nolte and says "that was the first orgasm I've had in years." I asked my mother what an orgasm was... she wouldn't tell me.

Not a movie, but during the end-credits of The Flintstones, I never understood that big conch shell that waitress lady puts on the Flintstone car to cause it to fall over, and why Fred was licking his chops and rubbing his hands together when she was arriving with it.

Now (I think), it's a "speaker" for the drive-in movie they're in. lol.

Nope, you have them confused. The conch is in the opening credits when they are at the drive through theater. During the closing credits, the waitress brings fred a big steak that causes the car to fall over.

Guess they're actually a rack of ribs. Learned this today. Scary. I told my 8-year old son the other day it was a big drive-in speaker. Yikes.

The "french class" line in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The "suicide" line never bothered me when I was younger but Han has a line about "see you in hell" always bothered me... long long time ago in a galaxy far, far away still had Christianity? Yep, I thought about those things when I was little.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: "Nice beaver". Took me a while to figure that out.

Same here. Speaking of which, before I saw a trailer for the sequel, all I knew was that the title was "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid." I must have been about 10 years old, and I mistakenly understood it to be literal. It probably would've been a better movie, too.

Seriously?! They are shown leaving the drive-in. They are clearly at a drive-up restaurant. Fred is rubbing his hands together in anticipation. Why would he be excited for a giant drive-in movie speaker? Why would there be such a thing as a giant drive-in speaker?

They're brontosaurus ribs.

I know that line is in the first Naked Gun flick. Is the same line in 33 1/3?

Simpsons also I get a lot of jokes now I hadn't when I was little.

I also didn't get several Seinfeld jokes, especially the episode in which Jerry was trying to find out his girlfriend's name.
