What cult franchises would you like to see revived?
 

With Star Trek waning, Star Wars ready to call it quits, and Battlestar Galactica trying to make a comeback, I've been thinking about some other franchises that have been MIA for a while now.

I'd like to see new versions of the following:

Buck Rogers. And not based on the campy 70's series, either, but reimagining the original Buck Rogers for a new generation.

Flash Gordon. Flash is one of those characters that should never be allowed to die out, but what have we seen with this character lately? Heck, at this point I'd even settle for a Dreamworks animated Flash Gordon project to counter the Tarzan animated movie from a few years ago if we can't get Flash Gordon back in the theaters.

Space 1999. Of course, the title is dated now, but I have always wanted to see this brought back with a "next generation" type approach. And this show was better than Star Trek TOS so I see plenty of potential to go places with this franchise.

Buckaroo Banzai. While it never really got off as being a true franchise, I would love to see this character evolve into one.

Doc Samson. One of the greatest pulp heroes of all time, even had a comic book series as late as the 90's. If Alan Moore's successful Tom Strong comic book series can prove, there is still an audience for this type of character.

The Shadow. Now who wouldn't want to see a series of movies based on the late 80's DC series by Kyle Baker? Those were the last great Shadow stories, now it's time to bring the character back to the big screen.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "cult" franchises. Trek & Wars are anything but "cult" franchises, they are as mainstream & have as big of followings as anything out there.

For me, I would love to see a Sandbaggers revival if done right. It may not qualify as a franchise but it definitely has a cult following. It inluenced so many things. It was a British TV show in the late 70s about the British Intelligence & it was the best.

Not all should be Full length features. I wouldn't mind the comeback of <b>Serial Shorts</b> or even <b>One Shots</b> to be honest. I mean there's so much that can be done with them and it would make going to the movies really cool like the old days. Hell, I'm only 33 and I can remember cartoons before features.

The Green Hornet

The Evil Dead. Although having Bruce Campbell in Spider-man and Spider-man 2 is more than enough for a fan like me!

Remo Williams. Although I'd hate to see anyone other than Fred Ward play this charachter. I second Buckaroo Banzai as well.

Big Trouble In Little China and Escape from New York. Though to be honest, I'm not sure if I'd actually want John Carpenter directing them.

Conan. If Arnold doesn't end up as Gov. we may see another one soon.

I remember at the end of The Sword and the Sorcerer, there was a note that Prince Talon was supposed to return in further adventures. Twenty years later, I'm still waiting. :( One of the better flicks of that genre.

...how about a return of Doc Savage? It's almost in the same vein as Buckaroo Banzai with the group of over-specialized band of scientists and misfits, but the old books still make great content for a film... the movie was pretty bad, but that was just a mess anyway. I call for a do-over!

Oh - nothin' much - just "the biggies:"

The Prisoner.
Twin Peaks.

Neither of which, if revived, would hold a candle to the originals.

Here's hoping HBO's "Carnivale" has that good ol' dark "Peaks-ian" vibe.

Evil Dead

Mystery Science Theater 3000 with everyone from the first six years... Joel, Mike, Crow, Tom Servo, Dr. Forrester, TV's Frank... everyone.

Ditto on everything you said.

I'd love to see my favorite investigative reporter, Carl Kolchak, return in some manner, maybe a new TV show or a movie. I love the two TV movies on DVD and would love to see the original series on DVD, but a revival would be keen!

Of course I don't know who could replace Darren McGavin (nobody could replace Darren McGavin), but if the right actor was found, I'd definitely check it out!

Oh gawd, how many other twenty-year-old grrls have even heard of Kolchak the Night Stalker? :p
