We know that one of the trucks used was named "SORCERER" but the fact that it wasn't used as the "main" vehicle nor was a bigger name and the name draw (Roy Scheider) driving it. Hell, the "Sorcerer" was even destroyed.

I bridge crossing scene had me on the edge though. Really intense moment.

The film's title, according to Friedkin, refers to the evil wizard of fate which people supposedly have no control over.

Re: Has anyone seen Friedkin's Sorcerer?

Which is shitty.

Not sure what I would have called it but Sorcerer is a great film with a shit title.

I don't think Wages of Fear as a title fits it either.

Yeah. I loved that poster.

Damned Cargo... Roughly translated. That's what it translates to me.

Foreign Titles

French : The Convoy of Fear
Dutch : The Convoy of Fear
Italian : The Wages of Fear
Turkish : Destiny Battle
Czech : Price of Fear

Due to the subtitles at the beginning of the film many theater patrons began complaining, believing that they had unknowingly paid to see a foreign film. In order to alleviate that, special posters were quickly printed up and posted in the theater lobby which stated the following. "YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE. To dramatize the diverse backgrounds of the principal characters in "Sorcerer", two of the opening sequences were filmed in the appropriate foreign languages - with subtitles in English. Other than these opening scenes, "Sorcerer" is an English-language film."

I finally got around to watching this a few weeks ago. Great flick, although (I'm going to get criticized for this...) I felt that the opening was too long. I kind of felt that way about Wages of Fear, too, but for different reasons.

Anyway, If you haven't seen it, check it out!

It's a cliché for sure but in the most sincerest way, this movie was ahead of it's time. A serious injustice was done with the way this movie's been handled over the years.

You cannot watch it without truly feeling the tension, it was made in a time where the actors were in the scenes and that is a realism you cannot find today.

For the most part... Yes.

It's funny watching one aspect of the rain storm. Some shots have an layered rain effect on the image. Never noticed that on the shit DVD. stood out like crazy to me.

I think that's the only non practical thing in there.

Ha. Who will buy the DVD here? Seems pointless for a DVD of this now. I think anyone who wanted this thing wanted it on BD.

just bought it and watched it. i don't see what all the fuss is about this movie. only thing i liked was the movie score. friedkin said he wanted steve mcqueen for the lead and don't see that would have made a difference.

McQueen was a movie star and Roy Scheider even though he starred in Jaws was not. With McQueen the movie would have cost more and probably made more at the box office. I personally like the way it turned out and think that Scheider was perfect for the role.

Just picked this up on a blind buy from eBay. A seller currently has them for $14.99 shipped. I loved "Wages of Fear," and am looking forward to checking this one out. :)

Yeah. He was soooo goddamn good for how Juan Dominguez had to do his thing. The desperation, madness, and just the physicality for it. I am not a fan of McQueen all that much but he had star power for sure. NO WAY could he have gotten to the drama of that character like Scheider did. I would have liked to see what McQueen could have done to it though.

Steve McQueen was a difficult person to work with and William Friedkin didn't take no shit from anyone so who knows.

I know Billy doesn't take shit from anyone.

EDIT: Wow. Didn't know all this shit.

Damn, they had a go at Sharon Tate at the same time these two:

The two men, fuelled by alcohol and cocaine, shared the sexual favours of a Bambi-eyed starlet called Sharon Tate, often in the same bed at the same time. And their friendship continued even after she married the director Roman Polanski.
