Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

I've currently bought a couple different copies of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn".

In doing so, I was amazed at truly how many movie versions there are of these two stories.

My question to you folks is this:

Which movies do you identify with as being THE Adventures of Tom Sawyer (or Adventures of Huckleberry Finn) movie.

Personally I would have to say mine is this version:

Tom Sawyer

The one that Johnny Whitaker plays Tom Sawyer and Jodie Foster plays Becky.

My second question is more of a "If anyone knows anything about the above mentioned movie coming out on dvd". It was released by MGM / UA in 1973 and has only made its way to VHS.

Did anyone ever see the series that aired on Showtime during the 80's. It was the best incarnation I have ever see. I have not seen a release of it on DVD or VHS.

The definitive Tom Sawyer is the 1938 version with Sid, Aunt Polly and injun Joe. A true classic if ever there was one.
