Whats Aronofsky up to?

I thought he was doing a flick with Brad Pitt, but I couldn't find any information about it. Any info on this movie? Even a title would be useful.

This movie was called "The Fountain". It was also supposed to be with Cate Blanchett, it was some sci-fi thing with Aztecs or God knows what. Nonetheless, Brad Pitt walked on this one about a day or two before shooting was supposed to start. I believe the project just fell apart at that point.

Yeah this was disappointing. I was excited to see what Aronofsky and Pitt would do together.
I read multiple places that he was going to direct the next Batman movie but that too seems in limbo.

sci-fi thing with Aztecs? is this Stargate 2?

PixyJunket 07-17-03 03:51 PM

Man I hope whatever he does he stays away from Batman.. I am so sick of little kids comic book movies. Not to say they don't have thier place, but y'know.. Arronofsky! :(

From what I heard, he's working on a film version of the Roszak book "Flicker."

RichC2 07-17-03 04:24 PM

He's working on Flicker and Lone Wolf and Cub.

Lone Wolf and Cub is based on the now-classic manga, should be interesting, and (IMO) a much better choice than going the superhero route.

Last I read, all he did was buy the rights. That doesn't mean he is working on the project, there are creators that have owned rights to movies for literally decades, but never actually started production on them.

Personally, I am a HUGE fan of the movies & manga, . And unless they are as bloody as the original, I would have no interest in seeing them. Of all people, Tarantino would be the one to do the originals justice, but Aronofsky is not shy of mature content, so I hope I'm wrong & he is working on the project.

True.. IMDB has it as (Announced) which usually means more than "obtained rights to" (hell, Madonna owns rights to Parasite Eve) but you're likely right. I dunno why people shy away from a little blood here and there...

Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia) is also interested in directing a Batman movie. I say WB should let both of them do one each :)

Chris Nolan is signed to direct Batman "5" officially, with Scarecrow rumored to be played by Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd. Batman is yet uncast. Nolan wants Guy Pearce, WB wants a young star like Ashton Kutcher. Let's hope that doesn't happen. This will be the next Batman movie and it will happen.

Aronofky was to do Batman 5 if it were to be an adaptation of Frank Miller's Year One. Is was to drastically take the Batman series in a different direction. The script was co-penned by Aronofky and Miller. Obviously, WB is not going to do dual projects. They decided to go the more mainstream route, and the Year One project is pretty much dead.

Since Nolan is doing part 5 it does have the potential to be good.

Guy Pearce would be a good choice to play Batman, but he hardly spells box-office gold. Obviously, Warner Bros. is trying to ignite the franchise. Hopefully they won't go with some no-talent like Kutcher.

Guy Pearce isn't a good choice. He's too scrawny. He'd be a better adult Spider-Man.
