First timer directors that should be making more movies...
 

I was wondering about some of those hyped first timer directors who seem to be having trouble getting new projects off the ground.

One good example of this is the director of "the slums of beverly hills" tamara jenkins.

That was an excellent debut film, and I've been looking out for any new projects of hers, but nothing.

Any other directors you can think of like this?

I don't know exactly what's he's up to but Richard Kelly I suppose....

Billy Morrissette did a great job on Scotland, PA, and has not been heard from since. Helllllooo, Hollywood!

Knowing (2004) is his next project.

A water main breaks, resulting in repair crews unearthing an elementary school's time capsule. But when the chairman of the town's historical society opens the capsule, he finds more than he bargained for. Full of children's drawings, the sketches are predictions of the future. But one child's pictures are much more than ridiculous future worlds. Each sketch accurately predicts some of the greatest tragedies from the past fourty years. Only one of the drawings has yet to come true. In a race against time, the chairman sets out to prevent the last drawing from becoming a reality.

That sounds really interesting. Should be a good movie.

That would make a great TV show, only I would replace the time capsule with tomorrow's newspaper.

I don't know about first timers but a couple I keep my eye on for future works.

Alex Proyas: Released 2 films in 9 years. Both 4 star films, the Crow and Dark City

Christopher Nolan: Excellent first film, memento but Insomnia was so, so.

corvin, i meant along the lines of director's who have made only 1 film, a debut film, and nothing since.

nolan's first film was "following" by the way.

This is an in-joke, no? I know I recognize this plotline, but I can't place it. What is it?

I'm also looking forward to Knowing. Donnie Darko was one of my favorite movies of 2001, and if he can prove he's not a one-"hit" wonder, he might have what it takes to get much sought after placement on the list of directors K will go see a movie based almost solely on the director (Fincher, Spielberg, Linklater, Burton, etc.).

I think the show was "Early Edition" it was some show on...CBS(?)

A guy got tomorrow's paper and he had to try and stop some bad events from happening

I know what was meant, I can't think of any first timers though.

ALex Proyas has a movie that in some countries has already been released and will be released in the US really soon....it called Garage Days

Comes out next week IIRC, and getting mixed reviews, too.

I saw the trailer for Garage Days last week, and it looked very funny, a change of pace for Alex Proyas.

I've been waiting for Sofia Coppola to come up with something after '99s <i>Virgin Suicides.</i>

Off topic, but seen Garage Days. It's already out here on DVD and it's a great little film. Proyas also has the big-budget Will Smith flick "I, Robot" being released next year.
