I haven't actually seen all of them, but of the ones I've seen, the first is obviously the best. Wes Craven's New Nightmare is also a cool concept, though, by the end, the execution left much to be desired.

I've seen all of them, and everything from 2 onward was just pure camp and I loved them all. My favorite though is the first one--it still is one of the very few movies to actually scare me.

The first one, of course is a classic. Past that I'd have to go with New Nightmare, just because of the whole 'breaking down the 4th wall' thing. A keen take on a series that was struggling towards the end.

Hey DVD professor could you please calm down with the thread making? We dont need to find out what everyones favortie movie from every movie series ever is. You've got like 10 threads on the first page alone. Calm down. Dvdtalk isnt going anywhere.

pt. 1 because it was totally original and frightening when it first came out.
followed closely by pt. 7 "new nightmare" which is technically the best film/best made film out of the series (except for the dissapointing showdown scene)

I like them all at least a little, but 1, 3, 4, and 7 are probably my favorites. I have to agree with the part about 3 and the human puppet. When I was a little kid that part seriously disturbed me.

The original is still my favorite. It still gives me chills when i watch it. Probably because i was 9 when i first saw it and i slept on the floor in my mom's room for a good year after watching it. Probably the first horror film i watched.
I enjoy watching 3&4 as well but the first will always be my favorite.

I borrowed the box set from my brother this past week [got the F vs. J deal at Best Buy]
Before this, I believe the only movie I had seen was part 3. After watching all 7, I thought NEW NIGHTMARE was a great movie and the only one I really cared for.
I hope that they re-release it later on as a 2dvd, so I can get it. And if they re-release part 1 as a 2DVD, maybe I will get that one too.
