would I enjoy Boogie Nights?

I have seen two other PTA movies, and I really hated them both. Both movie bored me to tears, when it seemed like they both tried to be arty, but there wasn't really a point to either. So give me thoughts, is boogie nights more of an arty movie with no real point with incredably lame and borring pacing, or is it a thrilling look into the porn industry

Also, is the second commentary with everyone in the same room since the dvdtalk review is a bit confusing with pta acting as interviewer.

No, no, no. Boogie Nights is a great film, lots of humor, lots of great performances, much more like a Tarantino flick than any kind of art house film. Plus lots of nekkid women, including Heather Graham and Julianne Moore.

Yes, you'll love Boogie Nights; It's his most accessible film. Which other two did you watch? Magnolia and what else?

Ok, if you didn't like the other GREAT PTA films then yes, chances are you will hate Boogie Nights. There aren't a lot of nekkid chicks considering its content and its not like any QT movie I've seen. Since you already have an apparent bias when you describe other PTA films as "incredably lame and borring pacing" I will pass on giving you my thoughts.

I am not a big PTA fan but I enjoyed this movie. The journey through the porn industry is very compelling. It does have a more leisurely pace than Tarantino IMO.

I think it is his best. I liked his first three movies but did not like Punch Drunk Love.

"Boogie Nights" is a really great film. The only other PTA film I've seen is "Magnolia," and that one left me pretty cold. I mean, I didn't think it was necessarily bad, but I just couldn't force myself to care for it one way or the other.

"Boogie Nights," on the other hand, I loved. Great music, great acting, great script. This baby has panache. It's like putting John Holmes, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Robert Altman in a big blender and making a big cinematic margarita.

The firecracker scene had me squirming in my seat.

If you want to get a look at the porn industry, I say stay away. If you think the sole purpose of a movie is to entertain and forget about 15 minutes later, stay away.

If you want to see a neat movie about different people working in an industry, I highly recommend it.

In all honesty, while I like the whole movie myself, it's almost worth sitting through the first 2 hours and 10 minutes to get to the "Sister Christian" scene. While it seems seperate from the rest of the movie, that one alone really makes the movie click. At least IMO.

If you don't like PTA's other movies, you probably won't like Boogie Nights.

Oops this movie talk I thought your were talking about the disco song, actually I like Funkytown by Lips Inc. Have't seen the movie it didn't have any Giant Ants like THEM I just watched, it didn't have any Swarm, Wolfen, or giant spiders either.

P.S. Didn't get my evil little girl out of my DVD player, I guess I am part of 'The Ring' now. 610-867-5309 Jenny Jenny, I know your number, now get off of my cloud.

I think if you didn't like the other PTA flicks you've seen...you probably won't like Boogie Nights... I have a few friends who HATED this movie... I on the other hand, absolutely loved it, and became a PTA fan as soon as I left the theatre... but I also loved loved loved Magnolia, and was thrilled with PDA....so, I think you should start watching it, but I doubt you'll enjoy it.

Personally I'm a huge PTA fan, with Magnolia being his best work IMO. But Boogie Nights was the movie that first got me, and by God I think it's great. Will you like it? I agree that it is his most accesible movie with more things actually happening in the plot, more humor, and some boobage. But really...it's hard to say who will like it or not...it's not for everyone.

I dsiliked Boogie Nights quite a bit. I never saw it when it came out, but i kept hearing a buzz around how good it was. I felt it was fairly boring.

Yes, because I liked it and if you want to be smart and cool (or at least be a poser) you will like it too.

Hey now let's get it right. To be exact it is FULL FRONTAL Heather Graham nakedness...for a couple seconds. Enough to take it all in.

I am a huge PTA fan. I have all his films on DVD. If you didn't like Magnolia and PDA you probably wouldn't like Boogie Nights. While it is different from his other films it still has a lot of elements to it that he carried over into his other films...Magnolia specifically. I would say it is at least worth at a rental if you at all interested in the subject. You might want to check out his first film Hard Eight. It is very different from the other 3 PTA films but very good.

Rent it just for the Sister Christian scene.

Then when you take it home to watch, decide to view it from the beginning. You will get excellent story, character development, screenplay, direction, music, and acting.

This film has some of the best acting in recent memory. Burt Reynolds boosted his career back with this film (sadly it is down the drain again. should have won the oscar) and Mark Walhberg showed us that he can be more than a panty poser. Heather Graham is a beaut, and Julianne Moore is way great (as usual. should have won the oscar). Really, the whole cast is great.

This was my favorite movie of 1997, edging out L.A. Confidential for the top spot. It is filled with comedic moments, dramatic moments, and heart stopping moments.

The only thing that this has in common with Magnolia is length and numerous characters. It is really more accessible that Magnolia. Some of the scenes may be on the long side, but they don't seem to have the "drag" feeling as Magnolia. (BTW - I love Magnolia)

Seriously, why have you not rented this yet?

I don't think you will enjoy it. I suggest seeing Hard Eight first. I think it has more replay value as well.
