What DVD had the most misdirection and/or plot twists that had you baffled?
What DVD had so many plots, twists or misdirection that you couldn't figure out the ending, no matter how hard you tried?
My blind DVD buy was "The Changeling" starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Dervere, John Colicos, and Melvin Douglas. I a horror movie fanatic, in ghost movies and was stumped to how it would end. I just couldn't figure it out as it plot turns in oppisite direction throwing your stong idea of how it would end right out the ever loving window, more than once. I am so glad I bought and still view and enjoy this new to me DVD mind stumper of a movie. Whoever wrote this is brilliant to stump Uncle Danol soooo bad! Yours? |

I could not agree more. "The Changeling" is a top-drawer ghost story AND detective story. You may or may not know it, but the film won the Canadian equivalent to Hollywood's Best Picture Oscar the year it was released (late 70s, I think). I, too, am a horror afficiando; not so much slasher flicks, but good scary ghost stories. Other films that I highly recommend in this genre are the 1963 version of "The Haunting," directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Harris. A true mind f**k if there ever was one. A psychological ghost story that scares you for what it DOESN'T show you. Also has superb sound effects. It was remade in late 90s by director Jan DeBont and starred Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lilli Taylor in Julie Harris role. Do not waste your time with the remake. It was just awful, and boring as hell. Another superb ghost story is the Deborah Karr mid-60s classic "The Innocents," about ghostly children. A few more that come to mind are "Carnival of Souls," "Jacob's Ladder," "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others," which features an outstanding performance by Nicole Kidman. Also, "The Exorcist" certainly fits the bill as a great horror film AND a great detective story (like "The Changeling"). Anyways, those are my thoughts. C-Ya!

If any danol thread was made into a movie, I'd nominate that.

I doubt it would still do this if it came out now, but at the time it came out, The Sting totally had me fooled.

The most messed up movie in my collection is probably Casino Royale. It's fun to watch, but it sure doesn't make any sense. :)

Even the writer and the director of The Big Sleep couldn't figure out who committed one of the murders - it remains unsolved to this day.

The Matrix. Which isn't surprising since only great intellectual geniuses can enjoy this series. Anybody who says they didn't like it? Low IQ, didn't understand it.

For me, the recent trend of "twist" endings stinks on ice. It started with "The Sixth Sense"(and to a lesser extent, the Usual Suspects), and working in the indy world, I can't tell you the number of hacks hoping to trade on this gimmick. But more troubling has been the shift to mainstream films. But in a series of innane contrivances, Minority Report is the worst offender to me. It seems like it's Speilberg trying to be Shamalyan, and to poor effect. The "roller coaster" ride merely a dull trapse through the park, and the MacGuffins are out of the oven and ready to eat! Talk about overplotted tripe! How about instead of these great twist endings, give us a great movie for the first 95% of our time, and things will be far better off for all involved.

The Tigger Movie was quite a mind bender. But then I am pretty stupid.

The ending of Jagged Edge left me with questions unanswered initially.

hmm I need to look into these as well.. I love plot twist movies :)
though I thought The Changeling was absolutely terrible, my worst blind buy in ages - good thing it was only $5. |
Memento... but it was a great ride.

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever has more mind numbing plot twists than any other movie I've ever seen. There's no real plot, just twist after twist to try to connect every character in some way. Terrible movie.
