Box Office 6/13-15 estimates: "Nemo" #1 again
Early estimates for 6/13-15 from www.boxofficemojo.com.
1 Finding Nemo $31,500,000/$194,600,000 total 2 2 Fast 2 Furious $20,500,000/$85,400,000 3 Rugrats Go Wild $16,100,000 4 Bruce Almighty $14,800,000/$194,400,000 5 Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd $14,500,000 6 Hollywood Homicide $12,100,000 7 The Italian Job $10,000,000/$55,800,000 8 The Matrix Reloaded $5,700,000/$257,400,000 9 Daddy Day Care $2,600,000/$92,700,000 10 X2: X-Men United $1,700,000/$207,200,000 Summer is turning out interesting... who would've predicted "Bruce Almighty" would break $200 million and Matrix would sputter out around $275 million? "Nemo" may turn out to be the summer's biggest moneymaker at this rate... |
Sheese. Doesn't this seem too early?
Edit: Still seems too early, but wow! This is a low grossing weekend... (These are Friday's numbers) 1 FINDING NEMO $8,494,000 2 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS $6,629,000 3 DUMB AND DUMBERER: WHEN HARRY MET LLOYD 4,635,000 4 RUGRATS GO WILD 4,590,000 5 BRUCE ALMIGHTY $4,337,000 6 HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE 3,810,000 7 THE ITALIAN JOB $2,858,000 8 THE MATRIX RELOADED 1,584,000 9 DADDY DAY CARE $639,000 10 X2: X-MEN UNITED $455,000 |
They take the Friday numbers and extrapolate them to come up with estimates for the entire weekend, based on historic patterns and the type of movie. I do think the D&D estimate is a bit high considering teen/dumb comedies tend to be more front-loaded for the weekend (do much more business on Friday than Sunday).

Man, Hollywood Homicide got slaughtered. Didn't think it would do that badly.

Well, it looks like dumb and dumberer will make around 30-35 overall.
|
hey that fish story has legs.
Frankly I can understand why. Strong word of mouth and rewatchability factor. hardly anyone I know wanted to watch Matrix again, and neither did I. |
Animated films historically perform with a much less drop from week to week
|
Kinda sad that something that looks as dumb as Dumb and Dumberer may outgross Hollywood Homicide. Don't get me wrong, the latter looks bad...but just seeing Harrison Ford go on talk shows to pimp his project and then it winds up losing to what critics are saying could be the worst movie of the year...
Glad to see Nemo staying strong. Looks like it might be the top-grosser of the summer, depending upon how Hulk holds up. |
Originally posted by mwj I am curious. Did you think it looked good or just that it would do better at the box office? I agree LBPound. Saw Harrison on Conan last night and he just looked so uncomfortable (which made Conan look even more uncomfortable). I couldn't tell if he was playing around or if he just really hated doing Conan. |

Originally posted by Shilex I thought it looked just so-so when I saw the trailers, but since it has Harrison Ford in it I figured that's already a big draw. Throw in Josh Hartnett for all the teeny boppers and moderately good reviews, and I figured at least Top Five box office. I agree LBPound. Saw Harrison on Conan last night and he just looked so uncomfortable (which made Conan look even more uncomfortable). Gettin off topic but yeah, Harrison's "intense" face thing was funny, but the part that made me wonder whether he wanted to be there or not was when Conan asked him if he was a grumpy man and then Harrison paused and said, "You know, I'm so sick of this s***". He looked really angry for that moment and it came out like he meant it. Maybe he was just joking, but it made me wonder considering that for most of the interview when Conan was asking him questions he was just staring off into space and acting like he didn't hear him. (or that might have just been the wacky weed talking :) )

Ford is a stiff on EVERY talk show appearance I've seen him do in the past few years. He didn't seem any more comfortable on Leno than he did for his Conan appearance.

biggest surprise cumulative gross so far in the summer for me is definitely Bruce Almighty.

Next week - Hulk smash! ;)

I can't wait to see Hulk!! HULK SMASH!
|
Word of mouth will not help Hollywood Homicide. The movie is terrible. Looks like it will rival Ford's bomb of last summer (K-19).
Could it be that HF is losing his star power -eek-???!!! |
What, you mean advertsing it first as a comedy, then as a serious CSI style thing, then as a non serious cop thriller, didn't work? color me surprised...
stupid studio... |

The deep-sea adventure ``Finding Nemo'' hooked the top spot at the box office with an estimated $70.6 million opening weekend. (AP Photo/Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar) LOS ANGELES (AP) - Cartoon fish still have audiences hooked as the undersea adventure "Finding Nemo" regained the top spot at the weekend box office with $29.2 million. The previous weekend's top movie, "2 Fast 2 Furious," fell to No. 2 in its second weekend with $19.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. Another holdover movie, "Bruce Almighty," was third with $14.2 million. New flicks had soft openings. The animated "Rugrats Go Wild," which blends the Nickelodeon "Rugrats" and "Wild Thornberrys" cartoon franchises, took in $12.5 million to debut at No. 4. Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett's buddy-cop comedy "Hollywood Homicide" opened in fifth place with $11.7 million. The idiot-buddy prequel "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" debuted at No. 6 with $11.1 million. Lacking a strong new movie, the overall box office was down after two straight up weekends. The top 12 movies grossed $118.6 million, off 24 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Scooby-Doo" opened with $54.2 million. Theater business is expected to heat up again this weekend with the comic-book adaptation "Hulk.""Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" arrives a week later, followed by "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" and "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde" over Fourth of July weekend. "It's been a summer of fits and starts, a couple of weekends up then down the next," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "There's no question that over the next few weeks, starting with 'Hulk,' we're going to see a resurgence." The Disney-Pixar collaboration "Finding Nemo," which had a No. 1 debut and a record opening for an animated movie two weekends ago before falling to second place last week, has raised its total domestic gross to $192.3 million in 17 days of release. "Finding Nemo" features the voices of Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Willem Dafoe and Geoffrey Rush in a tale of a father fish out to rescue his aquarium-bound son. "It's poetic justice that a movie about a father and a son would be the No. 1 movie of Father's Day weekend," said Chuck Viane, Disney head of distribution. Viane said "Finding Nemo" should top $200 million in its 20th day of release, 10 days faster than the last Disney-Pixar flick, "Monsters, Inc." The new movie also should pass the total "Monsters" gross of $255.9 million to become the top moneymaker of the five Disney-Pixar films, Viane said. Previous Disney-Pixar films were the "Toy Story" movies and "A Bug's Life." Revenues for the street-racing sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious" tumbled 62 percent from its $50.5 million debut a weekend earlier. Starring Paul Walker, "2 Fast 2 Furious" has grossed $84 million in 10 days. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at North American theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday. 1. "Finding Nemo," $29.2 million. 2. "2 Fast 2 Furious," $19.1 million. 3. "Bruce Almighty," $14.2 million. 4. "Rugrats Go Wild," $12.5 million 5. "Hollywood Homicide," $11.7 million. 6. "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," $11.1 million. 7. "The Italian Job," $9.5 million. 8. "The Matrix Reloaded," $5.5 million. 9. "Daddy Day Care," $2.1 million. 10. "X2: X-Men United," $1.6 million. |
