Recommendations for movies featuring a movie w/in a movie
 

Lately I’ve been drawn to movies that feature a movie within a move or otherwise peer behind the curtain of movie making as an integral element of the story. Of the ones I’ve seen, my favorites to date are: <b>The Player, Contempt, Sunset Blvd.</b>, and <b>Day for Night</b>.

Others I’ve seen include: <b>The Big Picture, Bowfinger</b>, and <b>Shadow of the Vampire</b>. What other flicks along these lines can members recommend?

The Purple Rose of Cairo was the 1st movie I thought of.

It is like a movie coming to "Real Life".

Speaking of that, how about Albert Brooks' Real Life?

Abel Ferrara's Dangerous Game

I have to second:

CQ - Awesome awesome film.

The Majestic - Some people don't like this one, but it's one of my all time faves!

Shadow of the Vampire - More of a fictional look at the making of a movie, but great nonetheless and shouldn't be missed.

It played on TCM last month, so its likely they will play it again considering the director/stars.

"MANT!" is a classic.

Definitely check out Sherlock, Jr. and Sullivan's Travels - two of my all-time favorites.

Another one that I enjoy quite a bit is S.O.B.

The movie within a movie is a fairly minor part of the story. In the same vein as Blazing Saddles.

Galaxy Quest is a bit of a stretch, but could probably work for this category as well.
