I think I know the answer is "yes, there is an obvious setup" without even seeing the film but since you've seen it is there?

As far as the sequel goes here's what the producer had to say
about looking forward to sequels in the overly long interview that
I posted in another thread:
I imagine there's a lot of ideas out there for a sequel already, but
from what I hear, Ang Lee will be behind this being a good movie,
and if that's the case, it will be important for him to come back for
any sequels.

heh, workprints don't count for reviews (for good reason), I'm sure Blaster knows a lil better than that.

The first review for Hulk at Rotton Tomatoes comes from Eonlines Anderson Jones
Some highlights:

Some highlights:
Cut to me at the Alfred Hitchcock Theater on the Universal lot Saturday night in Burbank. Director Ang Lee, whom I hadn't noticed in the theater before, stands up near the front to introduce the film.
"Universal gave me all the money I needed, and I worked with really wonderful people," he said, before unspooling Hulk for some of the first eyes on the planet. "If it sucks, it's my fault."

It is, in fact, a spectacular achievement in filmmaking and,
perhaps, the most consciously stylistic comic-book movie yet. If
you've been following the behind-the-scenes journey of Hulk, you
know Lee has employed some graphic visual effects that
constantly divide the screen into panels, split screens and
dissolves within dissolves. The film is very aware it's a comic-
book movie, and there is a collision of sorts of Lee's artistic
sensibilities with the fantastic elements of a comic movie come to
life. The results are incredibly interesting, if not always seamless.

You know, I've always been basing my negatives on the quality of the CG, not trying to imply anything wrong with the rest of the movie (which I haven't seen of course). But all of this "comic book stylings" of the video sounds way too much like the style of Battlefield Earth (which I also haven't seen) that were bashed again and again in the reviews, with the director claiming that he was basing it on-- comic book panels. Bad omen?
