I Watched The Hulk

Pretty good film. Surprisingly long at about 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Spoiler:
My favorite scene were the military chase scene. All kinds of crazy things happen during this and some funny lines also like "holy ****, he just grabbed my missile" or something to that effect after he shoots a missile at Hulk and he grabs it, bites the end off, and then throws it back. The film got really weird at the end when Bruce's father is talking to Bruce in front of the military and he bites into an electrical cord and turns into pure energy. He then has a fight with Bruce.

Is the film as poignant as some have said it is?

I wouldn't go that far.
Spoiler:
It is kind of sad how his father tried to kill him as a child, but his mother tried to stop him and ended up getting killed instead. You also really want to see Hulk destroy the military when it finally happens, because they treat him so bad.

Spoiler:
They already start out with them liking each other. She finds out he is Hulk when he saves her from the mutated dogs then turns back where she can see. The next morning she calls the military and tells them to come get him, which is a very bitchy thing to do. Somehow he still likes her after this though and she is the only one that can stop him when he is fighting the military. He calms down once he sees her. At the end of the movie it says that 1 year has passed and it shows her on the phone with her dad, who is part of the military. He wants to know if she has seen or talked to him. She says no and she wouldn't want him to come back, because she wouldn't want anything to happen to him again. It shows him out in the jungle somewhere as a doctor for some people.

If it does well box office wise definitely. If it tanks in theaters of course there won't be a sequel.

We all know that if the movie rakes in the cash there will be a sequel. I think what mole was getting at is - is there an obvious setup at the end similar to Spiderman or does the story end with all loose ends tied up.

I think I know the answer is "yes, there is an obvious setup" without even seeing the film but since you've seen it is there?

As far as the sequel goes here's what the producer had to say
about looking forward to sequels in the overly long interview that
I posted in another thread:

Spoiler:
Q: In the comics, Hulk would always say something along the lines of, "Hulk wants to be left alone." In the movie it wasn't really emphasized as much as in the comics. How come he didn't speak. He only had like two lines.

JS: Once again, we went back to the early, early Hulk. For inspiration I went right back to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the first cycle and he was not a speaking character at that point. He picked up his Hulk-speak over the years. He's been around for forty years, so there's been many iterations, including gray Hulk, of course, who's in Las Vegas having a good time.

We have a lot to play with if, God willing, we end up doing "Hulk 2" you hear a little bit more dialogue
I imagine there's a lot of ideas out there for a sequel already, but
from what I hear, Ang Lee will be behind this being a good movie,
and if that's the case, it will be important for him to come back for
any sequels.

Jason

heh, workprints don't count for reviews (for good reason), I'm sure Blaster knows a lil better than that.

The workprint that was released had unfinished sound effects and CGI apparently ( I haven't downloaded it )

I have seen workprints in the past that were extremely different from the final version that appears in theatres.

I normally don't care for comic book movies, but because of Ang Lee's involvement, I will watch it. In my opinion, Lee is one of the best working directors.

The first review for Hulk at Rotton Tomatoes comes from Eonlines Anderson Jones
Some highlights:
Cut to me at the Alfred Hitchcock Theater on the Universal lot Saturday night in Burbank. Director Ang Lee, whom I hadn't noticed in the theater before, stands up near the front to introduce the film.

"Universal gave me all the money I needed, and I worked with really wonderful people," he said, before unspooling Hulk for some of the first eyes on the planet. "If it sucks, it's my fault."
and
It is, in fact, a spectacular achievement in filmmaking and,
perhaps, the most consciously stylistic comic-book movie yet. If
you've been following the behind-the-scenes journey of Hulk, you
know Lee has employed some graphic visual effects that
constantly divide the screen into panels, split screens and
dissolves within dissolves. The film is very aware it's a comic-
book movie, and there is a collision of sorts of Lee's artistic
sensibilities with the fantastic elements of a comic movie come to
life. The results are incredibly interesting, if not always seamless.

I can't believe no one's asked The Question yet:

How bad/good is the CGI.

Why don't we wait for a legitimate review? Or maybe Blaster1 could review the film without spoilers.

You know, I've always been basing my negatives on the quality of the CG, not trying to imply anything wrong with the rest of the movie (which I haven't seen of course). But all of this "comic book stylings" of the video sounds way too much like the style of Battlefield Earth (which I also haven't seen) that were bashed again and again in the reviews, with the director claiming that he was basing it on-- comic book panels. Bad omen?
