Great stuff
|
If anyone's currious, here's Ebert's original article about Brown Bunny in full:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/eb-fe...ertside25.html And Ebert's response to the 'fat pig' 'curse on his colon' comments: http://www.suntimes.com/output/eb-fe...r-ebert04.html |
This is not the first time I have heard Gallo make derogatory comments about gays, jews, and african americans.
|
I was not alone in my judgment. Screen International, the British trade paper, convenes a panel of critics to score the official entries. "The Brown Bunny" scored 0.6 out of a possible five--the lowest score in its history, the paper said. This came as a blow to the French. Their national pride could not abide the notion that an American film was worse than any of their own, and so a few days later they countered with Bertrand Blier's "Les Cotelettes." "It actually scored even worse with our forlorn international critics," Colin Brown, editor of Screen International, told me. "Seven zeroes, vs. Gallo's five zeroes." |

Man, Gallo is ugly, that'd probably be the only way to get oral sex anyhow. |
Go Ebert....that article is absouletly priceless.
And as i suspected, he DID apologize at the press conference right after.... |
"Absolutely insane stuff from Gallo," editor Colin Brown assured me. "Not only is everything we wrote in Cannes exactly as he spewed out, word for word, it was all recorded on audio tape." He added, "It makes me wonder whether this is not all some great marketing ploy on his part. I have actually come across people who say 'Brown Bunny' is top of their list of films they most want to see out of Cannes this year." |
He added, "I'm sorry I'm not gay or Jewish, so I don't have a special interest group of journalists who support me." Such comments might seem politically incorrect, but not to Gallo, who says he is a conservative Republican |

I'm sure a lot of people, including me, will see this film because of all the negative press it's getting. I want to see just how bad it is.
I remember hearing about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas getting booed at Cannes, and that has quite a cult following now. |
I heard the you know what was not real just like Mr Digler.
|
Wasn't he in Freeway 2 playing a Mexican tranny who molested and ate kids?
|
I didn't see anyone mention this, but Ebert says this at the end of his review of "The Italian Job"
"If I had seen it instead of the Cannes entry "The Brown Bunny," I would have wept with gratitude." |
Roger Ebert should eat less fatty foods.
|
Gallo is quoted as saying that along with Ebert's colon, he also cursed Gene Siskel ( who is dead now). This Gallo is a real a-hole.
|
BTW, are there any photos from "Brown Bunny" on the Net? I'm intrigued about what it looks like.
|
Originally posted by filmerp I'm pretty sure that's a Churchhill quote, where some lady told complained to him at a dinner party that he was drunk. His response was, "I may be drunk, but you madame, are ugly ...and in the morning I'll be sober, but you shall still be ugly!" A worthy use of that comeback by Ebert. |
Ron Jeremy talks about 'coaching' Gallo for that oral sex scene.

F$%K Casablanca, I want Ebert to do an audio commentary for this DVD! That would at least make it a must-rent.
