Little Moments (scenes) that stand out in a film

The best movies always have a hundred little throw-away scenes that can take your breath away if you catch them. The scene where Eliot frees the frogs in ET. The little girl handing the young William Wallace a flower in Braveheart. The look on Al Pacino's face and the way Sollazzo's Italian turns into a droning buzz just before Michael Corleone opens fire in The Godfather.
In Finding Nemo... the expression of pride on Nemo's face when he hears about his dad risking everything to rescue him.
"No, that can't be my dad... he's afraid of the ocean."
and then
"That is him! That is him." And then he just beams.
(sniff) Must be (sniff) catching a cold...

I'll say the museum scene in Ferris Bueler's Day Off, especially the part with Cameron staring at the Monet painting (or Renoir, not an art guy if you can tell).

Annie Pope's brief restaurant reunion scene with her father in Running on Empty is one of the most powerfully dramatic moments in film, IMHO.

When Reese Witherspoon is coming up the escalator - to find Ryan Phillippe waiting for her at the top in Cruel Intentions. I love that scene, set to the Counting Crows 'Color Blind'.
"I'm impressed."
"Well, I'm in love."

Annie Hall - when Woody Allen is at a party, and expensive cocaine is being passed around in a snuff box, and he sneezes into it, blowing it everywhere.

I don't know why this popped into my head, but the scene of Charlie Sheen buying the apartment in Wall Street. The Talking Head's This Must be the Place playing in the background.
Another great one from that movie is the elevator scene with his dad Martin Sheen.

Two immediately come to mind:
The Shining
Danny riding his big-wheel through the Overlook's hallways, over carpet and hardwood. Virtuoso steadicom shot and great sound design drip with atmosphere.
The Godfather
When Clemenza and Paulie are pulling out of the driveway to "get the canolis." Clemenza warns Paulie to "Watch out for the kids." It's one of those moments that serves no plot purpose, but beautifully illustrates the movie's themes. It's always gets a chuckle out of me.

The ending of Empire Strikes Back when Vader tells Luke who he is and the sheer look of disgust on Lukes face, I still remember getting chills at that scene and I was only 8 or so....
Also when Kate Winslet steps out of the car in Titanic and she looks up and we are introduced to Rose...That scene is why I enjoyed that movie so much....

The look on Dirk's face at the "drug deal" in Boggie Nights
The scene in Malcolm X where Denzel gets out of the car (with A Change is Gonna Come playing) right before he dies.
The slow motion car bomb scene in the begining of Casino

The Shining
The guy in the dog/bear suit kneeling before a rich socialite. Brrr! It is beyond disturbing to me.
The Thin Red Line
During the first battle. As soldiers are running with rifles in hand in the background slightly out of focus, in focus in the foreground is a tiny blue butterfly, fluttering about, not minding man's inhumanity to man. Nature goes on while humans kill each other. Completely awesome film.
The Big Lebowski
The introduction of Jesus. The funniest five minutes of film in the last twenty years.
The Empire Strikes Back
Immediately after Han Solo is frozen in carbonite, we get a close up shot of Vader's head. The combination of the lighting, cinematography, color and soundtrack just sends chills down your spine.
To Kill a Mockingbird
Scout before the lynching crowd. The power of an innocent child to completely enervate the hatred of man. You can see the utter shame in the country yokel when he can't even look at her eyes. Devastating. God bless you Mr. Peck.

Evil Dead 2.
Ash has just cut off his hand, which has been posessed by the spirits of the house.
He traps it under a pail, and puts a pike of books on the pail to hold it down.
The title of the top book - "A Farewell to Arms."

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective - when Jim Carrey (Ace) is trying to figure out the Finkle/Einhorn connection in his apartment, and he's really getting irate. Finally, his dog is pestering him for food, and Ace Ventura snaps at him: "I can't afford dog food because I don't have the dolphin. I don't see a dolphin around here...do you??
It was the only time in the whole entire movie where Ace Ventura has a real face of emotion.

One very little scene that always stands out to me is this one from Superman:The Movie:
Perry White's holding a meeting in his office, parading all the headlines of all the other newspapers. Then he starts going around the room, asking questions. "What does he have under that cape?" , "does he have a boyfriend?" , "why'd he appear last night?", and as he gets to Clark, he asks, "What's his favorite football team?"
You see Clark actually about to answer him but Perry had moved on to the next guy. Classic.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High -- Damone's five secrets for scoring with chicks. Men have died trying to obtain this valuable information.
Damone makes his move using a cutout of Deborah Harry.
1. Never let on how much you like her. "Oh, Debbie -- hi."
2. You call the shots. "Kiss me -- you won't regret it."
3. No matter where you are, that's the place to be.
4. When eating out, find out what she wants and order for the both of you. It's a classy move.
5. And most important, when it comes down to serious making out, whenever possible, put on side 1 of Led Zeppelin 4.
Priceless.
Of course, the "side 1" reference is almost obsolete now.

The Hunt For Red October
Brilliant.
MANCUSO: What's so funny?
RYAN: The Captain seems to think you're sort of a 'cowboy'.
RAMIUS: (in russian) You speak russian?
RYAN: (in russian) a little. It is wise to know the ways of one's adversary. Don't you think?
RAMIUS: (in perfect english) It is.
