"Boogie Nights" question ---

Great movie - great soundtrack. That said, the film was set in the late 1970's, early 1980's, but it didn't include any songs with the word Boogie except for Boogie Shoes by K.C. And The Sunshine Band, but what about the song that the movie was the namesake for? Where was Boogie Nights by Heatwave?

Didn't anyone think it strange that they exclude that?

The film wasn't named after any song. IIRC, Boogie Nights is the name of the club in the opening scene.

I'm sure it's because they couldn't get/afford the rights.

The movie is loosely based on John Holmes. There is a movie (well, porno) Holmes starred in called Boogie Knight. That must have had something to do with it.

They could have cut back on the songs to buy the rights for the song by Heatwave.

Boogie Nights had at $25 million-dollar budget.

So if it was a problem with the rights, it was probably because the owner wouldn't contract them.

Didn't pulp fiction only cost like 10 million to make, and how did they get all the rights to all of those songs.

I would think the rights to many of the songs in the movie cost a lot more than a middle of the road song like Boogie Nights....

Just to clarify, Boogie Nights is not the name of the club in the opening scene (and other scenes). The name of the club is Hot Traxx.

The Boogie Nights title is on a movie theatre marquee (complete with "now playing"). The camera then falls away to follow people crossing the street to the club, Hot Traxx, then a car pulling up to the club, which turns out to be Jack Horner and Amber Waves.
