Agent Smith?

I think in his new form Agent Smith is a virus.

1. He fastly replicates and takes over others.

2. He infected the one guy and went to the real world.

3. It seems like he's a threat to humans and the machines. In the revolutions trailer at the end of the credits there's a voice over by the Oracle saying if you don't stop him today it's "all over" or something similar which I took as all over for humans and the machines.

4. It would tie in perfectly (and ironically) with his speech to morpheus about humands being a virus in the original.

Where's Norton Antivirus when you need it?

Jackskeleton 05-24-03 05:26 PM

Norton's Antivirus wouldn't touch him. :p then again, when's the last time it touched any virus? :p

freelans 05-24-03 08:38 PM

He's a virus in the literal sense.
But symbolically what is he?
What he's meant to represent I haven't figured out.

Maybe just as humans created the Matrix and it became their downfall, Neo has "created" Smith in a sense and it threatens the worlds of both man and machine.

inVectiVe 06-02-03 11:36 PM

Or perhaps the Brothers Wachowski painted themselves into a corner by giving Neo the ability to "jump into" Agents and explode them, and they had to scramble to find an explanation of why Neo wouldn't just do that to every Agent he encountered from then on. ;)

Seriously, the "Smith as Virus" angle makes sense.

V-ism 06-03-03 04:20 AM

Reminds me of the "humans are parasites" speech he gave in the first movie. He described humans as a virus or disease of the world. Smith is becoming more human, thus becoming more of a virus.

Giantrobo 06-03-03 05:22 AM

Seems reasonable. He seems a threat to everyone at this point.

kantboy 06-03-03 09:57 AM

I just hope he decides to infect EVERYONE in the Matrix. Now that would be great. "Mr. Anderson. We are legion."

Jamers 06-03-03 11:56 AM

And then all the Agent Smith's will want to have a sex change in Tha Matrix. Nothing but a pile of penises a mile high and a shortage of silicon. Hey, it could happen.

The Matrix is telling me this is Turkey Jerkey.

Patman 06-03-03 12:59 PM

The term "Burly Brawl" is taking a whole different meaning now...

BTW there was a level in the video game where you were being chased by Smith and it was titled "The Virus Spreads."

interesting...

I had a buddy get mad because The Phantom Menace Soundtrack cd had spoilers in the music titles.

"Qui-gon Funeral" was really not something you want to see BEFORE you see the movie like my buddy did ;)

Yeah but who buys a soundtrack BEFORE watching the movie..? I mean I can understand something like Spiderman since it's nothing but a little tweeny MTV crap-fest, but Star Wars soundtrack is an actual score.. I couldn't really see listening to that before seeing the movie..

..and back on topic. I'm glad that it looks like Agent Smith seems to be the main protagonist of the thrid movie. Other than that pimp The Keymaker, he was the only character in Reloaded I actually enjoyed.

Spiky 06-04-03 11:03 AM

Protagonist? I thought that was Neo.

Assuming you meant antagonist, what about the thousands of Sentinels? I can't decide what Smith is now. He seems to be locked into wanting to become Neo so he can do what Neo can do. Maybe he even wants to destroy the matrix just to get rid of humans on his own. He surely is no longer working for the Architect.

PixyJunket 06-04-03 11:07 AM

Ooops yeah.. that's what happens when you post right after waking up. :)

From the Revolutions trailer, it looks like it all comes down to Neo vs Smith.

PerpleNerple 06-04-03 01:00 PM

My version:

Agent Smith entered into the real world via dude being assimilated. Smith now human will understand and become compassionate for the human life. Since Smith attempted to assimilate Neo, and failed, Neo has new found strength, and understanding of the machines, hence that is why he could feel the Sentinels coming and also destroy them. When all is said and done and the battles are fought, man and machine will find a way to live together in a new symbiotic relationship.

Lame? I guess it may be, but hey, that's where I see it going.

mikehunt 06-04-03 07:03 PM

I did, it was a John Williams score which is almost guaranteed to be good. bought ep2's sound track before the movie was released too
Smith is cool, but I hope they don't over do his replicating in the next one. that fight in reloaded was good when it was 20-30 smiths, but then when it was like 100 of them I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it
