The most talented child actors!!!

In the opposite of the "Annoying Child actors" thread posted, it is time to get positive and talk about very talented child actors. There are some very talented child actors out there, I'm just curious on who you think is or was very talented. Name some very talented child actors of all time.

Here are my picks:

River Phoenix
(He was one of my favorites, he played in such movies as "Explorers", "Stand By Me", and "The Mosquito Coast". It was sad that this kid died at such a young age)

Corey Feldman
(I thought he was the better actor in his childhood, movies like "Stand By Me", "The Goonnies", "Friday the 13th", and "Gremlins" are good examples)

Fred Savage
(He was great in the "Wonders Years" but he did good in the movies too like "Little Monsters", "The Wizard" and "The Princess Bride")

Macaulay Culkin
(This little guy has a lot of potential. He was very entertaining in all of his movies like "Home Alone", "Uncle Buck", "Getting Even With Dad", etc. He is obviously not a child anymore, he is a grown man already, he stopped doing movies to do theatre. I wish he would make a comeback to the big screen though)

Shirley Temple
(Her movies are always fun and entertaining, I always enjoyed watching them)

Drew Barrymore
(Her being young was the only time I found her a talented actress, today I find her a boring actress and she hasn't been releasing that good movies as of late. "Boys On the Side" and "Poison Ivy" were pretty good movies but I loved her earlier work when she was a young child more, movies like "E.T.", "Firestarter" and "Cats Eye". Stuff like that)

That's all. :)

Kirsten Dunst - phenomenal in Interview With A Vampire

Groucho 05-21-03 08:17 AM

Sage Stallone

Completely out-acts his dad in Rocky V.

Imaginary Boy 05-21-03 08:30 AM

I liked the kid from Dark City, you know, The Stranger.
Though he doesn't say much, he's soooo creepy...

"Kill Him!"

BuckeyeDawg 05-21-03 09:56 AM

The little girl in "The Crow"

Even though his filmography is tiny, Max Pomeranc from Searching for Bobby Fischer definitely deserves kudos. It was a remarkable performance for a 7-8 year-old.

Some others:
Victoria Thivisol in Ponette
Andrej Chalimon in Kolya
Jodie Foster certainly.
Anna Paquin
Jena Malone
Lucas Black in Sling Blade
Andrej Chalimon in Kolya

Speaking of Lucases, Lukas Haas was a pretty solid child actor as well.

Natalie Portman - Leon
Dakota Fanning - Trapped

Frankly, I was astonished at Henry Thomas's performance in E.T.

And hey, I kind of like bashing celebrities... :(

Alien Redrum 05-21-03 12:25 PM

Dakota Fanning - I am Sam
another nod to Lucas Black - Sling Blade, X-Files, American Gothic (TV)
Haley Joel Osmont - Sixth Sense
Kieren Culkin - The Mighty, Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys
Jake Lloyd - Star Wars. Just kidding.

Mondo Kane 05-21-03 12:36 PM

Christian Bale-Empire of the Sun
Sean Nelson-Fresh

Lucas Black in Sling Blade

Both of those stand out.

Natalie Portman's performance in Leon was amazing.

Winner.

Kelly Reno in the Black Stallion is pretty amazing, especially considering he did all of his own stunt work and was alone on the screen for much of the movie. He was hit by a car soon afterwards and never did a movie again.

Mason Gamble's got a lot of potential. He was Dirk Calloway in Rushmore.

Talented child actors begin and end with Mickey Rooney.

monkey 05-21-03 04:19 PM

Nicholas Hoult from "About A Boy"
Jeremy Blackman from "Magnolia"

Wag 05-21-03 05:25 PM

I know it is TV, but Little Ronnie Howard as Opie in The Andy Griffith Show, especially in "Opie the Birdman".

I know Medium Ron Howard and Big (bald) Ron Howard gained fame later in Happy Days and as a movie director, respectively. But as a child actor in TAGS, he was great.

diesteldorf 05-22-03 02:36 AM

eh, two come to mind, Shirley Taylor and Elizabeth Temple.
Or something like that.

CuriousGeorge 05-22-03 02:13 PM

Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun, by far.

I haven't seen every single performance mentioned here, but for those who have, does one even come close to Christian?

Lbrown 05-22-03 03:40 PM

You guys are probably going to think I'm crazy Emma Watson from Harry Potter. She played Harry friend Hermonie.

Mutley Hyde 05-22-03 09:17 PM

I think Emma did a great job. Good call.

tali219 05-22-03 11:16 PM

Eamonn Owens in "The Butcher Boy" is my favorite performance by a child actor. I also liked River Phoenix and Jerry O'Connell in "Stand By Me", Ricky Schroeder in "The Champ" and Dakota Fanning in "I am Sam".

Calistoga 05-23-03 12:04 AM

Mickey Roonie
Judy Garland
Shirley Temple
Drew Barrymore
Haley Joel Osment

Dimension X 05-23-03 09:33 AM

George "Spanky" McFarland

Vampyr 05-23-03 09:50 PM

Most of these (if not all) have been mentioned already. However, "a great cast is worth repeating":D

My list in no particular order:
Mickey Roonie
Jackie Cooper
Judy Garland
Ron Howard
Shirley Temple

Also - Daniel Radcliffe shows promise. We'll have to see what he does outside the role of Harry Potter. It's a long way before he is in eough films to judge.
