The dead horse is not only beaten, it has been kicked down the stairs and into the incinerator at this point. :yack:

I'm not much of a writer, and not really well versed in the series, but I had an idea not to long ago that would be a sort of Godfather 2 kind of thing. It would be 3 hours long, and would intercut between Will Graham capturing Lecter (the end of which we saw in Red Dragon) and Clarice going over the edge and going on her own manhunt after Lecter because she's sick of his crap. There would be parallels and all that kind of stuff.

For the next film after this one, I want to see Hannibal lecter picking up where we left him off in hannibal, full of his wit and charm, going to hollywood to pursue a career in acting, excelling at it, and then later going on to sell out by making one bad movie after another for money.

Thats gold right there.

Furthur evidence that Dino De Laurentiis needs to be put out to pasture as a producer.

Dino's resume is full of trash. "Flash Gordon," "Amityville II: The Possession," "Conan The Destroyer," "Silver Bullet," the wonderful 1976 "King Kong," "Body of Evidence".... what little good stuff has been done under him was undoubtedly due to the talent of those working for him, not Dino. He didn't even have anything to do with "Silence Of The Lambs," but because he owned the rights to sequels (he was involved with the first "Manhunter") he's ridden that hobby horse right into the ground.

Yeah this doesn't sound so interesting. Hannibal Lector is a very interesting character, but when you explain EVERYTHING and show EVERYTHING there is about this character, what's to fear? Where's the mystery? Also, four actors for those ages? I don't think 20 and 25 are far enough apart to warrant separate actors.

Don't forget his epic masterpiece, Orca.

Yet the man somehow has a lifetime achievement Oscar. Maybe there's someway they got it mixed up with a producer who has a good resume behind him?

Another Hannibal Lecter prequel?

From Yahoo news

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Hannibal Lecter is to take to take to the screen again in a new film that will track the cannibal killer from childhood.

"The Lecter Variation: The Story of Young Hannibal Lecter" is now being mapped out by his creator Thomas Harris.

Producer Dino de Laurentiis said four actors will be needed to play Hannibal at the ages of 12, 16, 20 and 25 in a film that will trace his childhood in Lithuania through his teenage years in Paris to his arrival in the United States.

"Lecter was born into a very rich family but the war destroyed it and killed his parents," De Laurentiis told the trade paper Screen International for its special edition at the Cannes Film festival (news - web sites) on Wednesday.

"He was left with his sister with whom he had a very close relationship," the producer said, giving a glimpse into the plot line for Lecter, brought to life on screen by Anthony Hopkins.

Don't know if this was already posted yet, but I thought I'd share it.

I guess they really want to get really deep into Lecter's history, I think what they are aiming after is that they are trying to make Hannibal Lecter seem like a real life serial killer.

Any Rumors Of A New Hannibal Lecter Movie?

Hi all, I fished around the net a bit but couldn't find much pertaining to the subject. I recall reading an article a few years back in which Hopkins seemed very agreeable to playing the Hannibal character again.

Crocker Jarmen 10-12-04 08:00 PM

I have high hopes for the long rumored Jason vs Freddy vs Ash vs Hannibal the Cannibal project coming to fruition.

BizRodian 10-12-04 08:51 PM

No thanks, after Red Dragon was considered to be "better" than Hannibal, I've decided the studios don't know what I like about the movies.

I know I'm in a minorty, but whatever.

Supermallet 10-12-04 08:57 PM

Well, after they ruined the ending to the novel, what else are they going to do?

BizRodian 10-12-04 09:35 PM

I think both Hannibal and Red Dragon were both better films when the ending was "ruined" :)

DJLinus 10-12-04 10:31 PM

There's a prequel in the works, but I'm not sure how far along it is.

New Hannibal Lecter prequel in the works...
POSTED ON 05/14/03 AT 10:00 A.M.
BY THOMAS CHAU

Reuters reports that author Thomas Harris and producer Dino de Laurentiis ("Red Dragon") are working on a new movie that would chronicle the life of Hannibal Lecter as a child.

"The Lecter Variation: The Story of Young Hannibal Lecter" is looking for young male actors at the ages of 12, 16, 20 and 25 will play one of film's most famous villainous characters, and trace his childhood in Lithuania through his teenage years in Paris to his arrival in the United States.

"Lecter was born into a very rich family but the war destroyed it and killed his parents," De Laurentiis said. "He was left with his sister with whom he had a very close relationship."

Hannibal Lecter was portrayed in recent years by Anthony Hopkins, who starred in "Red Dragon," "Silence of the Lambs," and "Hannibal."

Supermallet 10-12-04 10:41 PM

Hannibal as a kid? :whofart:

BizRodian 10-12-04 10:43 PM

Might be ok, but for totally different reasons as the other films I enjoy.

But you know, looking over it, it just seems silly. Who'd have thought Silence of the Lambs would spawn a "francise"? ugh.

Wow. That sounds like it could be better than any further Hannibal Lector movie I'd be expecting.

Hannibal's sister is touched on in the books, and I'd really love to see a movie fleshing out that part of his life.

I'd be pretty damn interested if what is described in the article got made.

However it would probabley wind up like Paul Scharder's Exorcist sequal (which maybe does suck, I can't know since I haven't seen it). The filmmakers assume (probabely correctly) that people want to see Lector eatin' people and outwitting the FBI. I hate to sound elitest, but this idea sounds too high brow to be a big studio movie.

But I would really like to see that.

Supermallet 10-13-04 06:24 PM

I like the idea, if it were a novel. I just can't imagine any kid playing a young Hannibal Lecter.

Giantrobo 10-13-04 09:28 PM

Wasn't there a rumor McKauley(sp?) Caulkin was gonna play him as a youth?

Supermallet 10-13-04 09:32 PM

I sure as hell hope not.

He already did a twisted psycho character in Party Monster. He was ok in that role but I can't picture him as Lecter.
