Down With Love... whadyathink?
 

I just got back from seeing this movie, and let me just say that I loved it. I loved the throughback to the old style of the Rock Hudson/Doris Day era.

Although it had a few too many sexual inuendos for me, I still loved it. :up: :up:

They give a whole meaning to using the split screen technique. ;)

I don;t think it'll make very much against movies like the Matrix and X2, but its a great film regardless of BO totals.

Did I mention that 3/4ths of the sold out 4:55 showing I went to were senior citizens...

Believe it or not, I did see this film.

The opening introduction sort of stumbled out of the gate, but boy did it gather momentum, and put out that snazzy late-60's vibe to the whole story, and had it speeding across the finish in no time at all. It was fun, and poked and prodded at the "battle" between the sexes in terms of love, work, family. The 2 leads are engaging enough and served the story sufficiently to get across that "vibe" to make the time period seem stereotypically genuine.

The script is filled with double entendres, and it's done in a fun, playful spirit for the most part. I didn't think the film dragged at all once we get through the initial introduction for Barbara Novak (Renee Zellwegger's character).

I give it 3 stars or a grade of B.

I saw it, and I liked it. I''d describe it as an inconsequential, but enjoyable, trifle. Oh, yeah, the split screen scene was innovative, sure 'nuff. :)

I saw it today too and liked the movie a lot. Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor were a lot of fun to watch, and the film was funnier then expecting. Yes, the split-screen stuff was pretty hilarious.

I really liked the 60s throughback look, with music and everything, and the sexual comedy, its good stuff. It was a nice turn around after last seeing X2 and The Matrix Reloaded.

I was pleasantly surprised by this film last night. I thought it was hilarious. Great cast and the material was very well written. The production was top-notch, too. I would actually give it **** out of *****, but only if you are a fan of the films that inspired it. I particularly liked Ewan McGregor and Sarah Paulson, though the rest of cast performed well, too.

I loved the movie... it was a classic throwback with style to burn. It was nothing but pure fun for the entire running time, both leads are extremly charming and I thought Peyton Reed did a great job directing. Like said, the split screen was great and this had some of the best double entendre I've ever heard... very fun movie...

looks like the Box Office isn't very high for the film...hopefully it'll build with word of mouth, but my screening only had about 45 people in it, and me and the people I went with were the ONLY ones laughing... 4 out of 5 stars

I went Friday night w/ my wife and parents and our show was about 2/3 full, which I was surprised by. I think word of mouth will be critical for this movie because the previews/trailers do not do it justice at all.

As I mentioned above, my theater was full for a 4:55 PM showing.... and I swear the 75-80% was over the age of 60. I guess they wanted to be 40 years younger and see soemthing that resembled movies from their hey-day.

... and then I wonder how many of them took offense to some of them more lurid double entoundres, not to mention the split screen. :lol:

Just came back from seeing it tonight and I enjoyed it a lot, it was an 8:10 showing and was pretty much 95% sold out.

The crowd in Sf was made up of mostly single women in big groups to check out Ewan, followed by gay men to check out ewan followed by the rest.

I very much liked it, and got pleasure from the whole David hyde Pierce and the sexual stuff there. that was a blast.

I'm sitting here watching this on HBO right now. I just don't understand why this film wasn't more successful and why the reviews weren't better for it than they were. It's just oozing with style and character, and the early '60s cinema feel is just about perfect, as well as the great musical cues. I also thought that everyone did a great job in the acting department. To me this one could be looked back on in many years from now, as a sort of classic.

We need less "Down With Love" titles and more "Snakes on a Plane" titles!

Horrific movie. It makes Freddy Got Fingered look like Out of Africa.

Well it helps if you're a fan of the old Hudson/Day movies. It is what it is and it's just a fun romp.
