Just curious.

Let me be the first to say I would love to write and direct my own film.

I've been in school, but funds are low now, and I'm forced to take a break from learning. I guess now I have time to actually try writing.

I want to direct and write, maybe acting sometime. I'm currently a junior(2 hours shy of senior status) majoring in Film - in the fall I will be taking a filmmaking course, where I have to make a short film. I believe in the spring I will be taking a writing course, where I have to write a feature-length script. I can't wait.

I would love to but I'm not in school. I'd love to take film school classes.

But not to direct and shoot.

I want to write screenplays. I already wrote a few scripts in the past as school projects.

Personally I think the editing process would be the most fun but I have no real desire to try it as a career.

I'd love to have a career in film. Now that I've been in the corporate world a few years and have some $$$ saved up, I may just give it a try.

Yep, I'm with Giles. I would never consider an acting job, but would love to get in on the technical side.

Another vote for 'Yes, but not in school at the moment."

As with many folks who want a career in the Arts...real life has taken over and I haven't been able to get back to this desire. "Sold out" and got the Business degree. Now I make enough to buy DVDs!

I've been wanting to turn several of my short stories into scripts. I started to work on one based on some of my exp at work, but then Training Day came out and...

I've had a movie running around in my brain for over 10 years that I've never written down. I kept making the excuse that I wanted to wait until I bought a computer so I could use a script writing software. Now that I have a computer, I still haven't done anything about it.

I've been an extra in one short film and I'll be an extra in the new Alamo movie later this month. Right now, that's all I really want to do. Just keep getting work as an extra in more movies.

Personally, I think it would be a cool thing to pursue but I just can't see myself doing it.

I would love to be what George Lucas should be. Visualist, imagineer, ideaman, editor, etc. I have all kinds of neat ideas, I can just never get them into a coherent form. Read into that what you like about the SW flicks.

I'd really like to sit on the set of every Star Trek production with a copy of Bjo Trimble's Concordance and the Okuda encycolpedia. And a cattle prod.

An ideal scenario would be:

Berman/Braga: "hmm, how about we have Archer and co. run into the Borg?"

Me: ZZZAAAPPPP

B/B: -lies on floor twitching and drooling-

YES! I've got one year left of film school, and hopefully I'll be able to have a career in the film industry. I want to write/direct, act, produce... sounds like a lot, but that's what I love... editing is the other thing I love, but that's a secondary thing for me.

I've directed 6 short films (the longest and best one being 18minutes, shot on 16mm) which I also wrote, had a bit part in etc. I'm sending my latest "Prince Solitaire" out to festivals now... it's kind of a Shrek meets American Pie type movie... ie. a dirty fairytale comedy. It's only screened once at my school's year end screenings so far, but it brought the house down... All I've ever wanted to do is make movies, so that is what I'm going to do!

MATT

oh, and good luck to everyone else who wants to be involved in the industry...

I'm going to film school within the next year,
what I want to do is Direct/ have my own producton company
i have a few shorts out there. I use to work for a big post house
burbank, cal but editing wasn't what i really wanted to get into
so me and a few of my film budies started our own production company with a ton of cool digital equipment.
I've worked n some mager Features such as spiderman etc-
and some ow budget crap like legend del chuapacabra.

I too have a lot of great ideas floating through my mind, but I've never put anything on film or paper. I'm looking forward to my filmmaking class in the fall, but also dreading it - since I've never actually filmed anything before, I'm feeling a bit skeptical. I spent three years working towards my computer science degree, then realized a year ago that isn't what I wanted, so I took up film. I've always enjoyed movies, but over the last year I've begun to appreciate all aspects of film. While my friends sit there watching a movie for blood, bullets, and boobs, I tend to pay attention to camera work, lighting, editing, etc. Of course I don't miss out on the three B's. They call me "film guru" now, because I tend to spout off so much info about countless movies, actors, directors, styles, etc., and I watch so many movies these days - I usually rent 7-10 movies a week, as well as watching movies from my collection.
The short film I will be doing this fall will be shown at the campus' Fall Film Festival, which is why I'm a bit nervous about it. My friends and I have an idea for a film to do, but we haven't fleshed out many details for it yet.
Aside from that, I have a few storylines that I've come up with, so hopefully I can get to work on writing scripts for them soon.

While I have plans to attend school and learn about editing and cinematography, right now I have writing completely on my mind. I've got several ideas in my head and I'm eager to start them, but first I'm reading up on screenwriting. I highly recommend the book "Story" by Robert McKee. I happen to think it's brilliant. I've read other books, and they were all crap compared to this one.

I'm not sure yet if I want to get into directing. The creative rush I get when I write, though, is enough for me. I've heard that writers don't really get the credit they deserve in Hollywood, and that kind of scares me, but I think I'm ready for it. I hope.

That sounds great, you should let us know where we might be able to see it.

I'd actually be kind of interested in going to film school some day, probably after college. I don't know what I'd want to do after that though.

I have ambitions to write and direct. Once I get done with school I believe I'm going to pursue that. I also am making a short film right now on my free time. Film school? Bah, no interest. I'll make movies to learn.

I've directed a few shorts and my first full length is now in pre-production.

I can't wait.

I've written one screenplay, started a second, and have two on the back burner waiting to come pouring out on to paper!
