Who is the best actor/director team of all time?
 

On this poll please pick your favorite actor/director team of all time. What I mean is, name a director and a actor who made 2 movies or more together.

My vote goes straight to Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis. Tom Hanks is my second favorite actor right behind Sly. I enjoy every Tom Hanks movies and I look forward to every single Tom Hanks movies that comes out in the theater. I love everything Hanks had done from 80's comedy to what he is doing now. My favorite part of Hanks is him working with Robert Zemeckis as I love the movies that they did together like "Forrest Gump" and "Cast Away". I'd love to see them two work together again.

My second favorite actor/director would have to be Kurt Russell and John Carpenter (another one of my favorite directors). Everything they had done together was excellent, not one of their movies sucked. They are such a fantastic team together. I love everything from "Escape From New York", "Escape From L.A.", "The Thing", "Elvis", and "Big Trouble In Little China". Now I think John Carpenter's career started going downhill ever since Kurt Russell stopped working with him. It would be cool if they would reunite to do a new movie together.

Oh and if you're wondering why I didn't pick Stallone/Harlin, I really loved "Cliffhanger", but I didn't like "Driven" enough to make it the best actor/director team. "Driven" still was an entertaining movie but not the best. ;)

Probably Scorsese/De Niro or Lean/Guiness.

How could you not include DeNiro & Scorcese? Herzog & Kinski? Wayne & Ford? Mifune & Kurosawa? Stewart & Hitchcock? Grant & Hitchcock?...

Stewart/Hitchcock is another amazing pairing.

Based upon the selections listed, I take it you dont watch a lot of foreign/independent/classic film.

My vote would be for Kurosawa and Mifune, NO CONTEST, based on:

- Rashomon
- Seven Samurai
- Throne of Blood
- High and Low
- Yojimbo
- Red Beard

Not too mention almost a dozen other *great* films the pair did together. Including Sanjuro. ESPECIALLY Sanjuro.

John Wayne/John Ford, Jimmy Stewart/Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart/Frank Capra, Francis Ford Coppola/Al Pacino, Francis Ford Coppola/Marlon Brando, David Lean/Alec Guiness are all better choices than most of these... I'm sure others on the forum can come up with 20 other choices.

How in the world could you leave out the best duo ever?

Vin Diesel & Rob Cohen? C'mon, it doesn't get much better than The Fast & The Furious & XXX. And what loyalty? Cohen turned down 2 Fast 2 Furious cuz they wouldn't pay his man Diesel. ;)


Nah, but on a serious note, I immediately thought of Deniro/Scorsese.

I'm having a tough time deciding between DeNiro-Scorsese and Mifune-Kurosawa......

I love ya Rock, so I'll go easy on ya. You know who belongs on there, so no point rehashing your list. But I did have to vote other, as tempting as Stallone/Harlin was.

Hard to ever compete with Kurosawa/Mifune, because both are so much better together than apart. It's nearly the same dynamic with Scorsese/Deniro, so for sheer output plus importance of the team, those get eternal props. And Stewart/Hitchcock is right up there, but how great is Stewart man. It could easily be Stewart/Ford or Stewart/Capra for that matter, all probably did their best work with Lord Jim.

EDIT: I just wanted to throw a bone toward the Fellini/Mastrioanni collaboration, I meant to include them earlier. A bit avant garde and over looked in recent years, but they did brillant things together.



But I'd like to cast my "Other" vote toward and unsung team. Burt Reynolds and Hal Needham. Their pairing:
