The only sequels I'm looking forward to off that list are:

X-Men 2
The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions
T-3
Exorcist: The Beginning
Spy Kids 3-D (Stallone in this movie is the only reason I'm seeing this)
Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life
Barbershop 2
LOTR: ROFTK

That is all.

Barbershop 2? Why God, WHY?

lesterlong 05-01-03 11:53 AM

Its like that every year.

grunter 05-01-03 11:55 AM

Hmm - perhaps that's why this summer feels like one of the lamest summers on record?

No, there really is a record number of sequals slatted for 2003. The most ever in a calander year.

On the commentary of the first one, the director Tim Story, said he needed to continue the story because it's not even finished yet. He plans to make Barbershop a trilogy with the original cast members.

I love Barbershop, I thought it was a wonderful film. :)

Yep, it is quite odd...every 2 or 3 years is a sequel heavy summer and/or movie year. Next year has a few that I know about:

Amazing Spider-Man
Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban
Under Seige 3
Shrek 2
Mission Impossible 3
Mad Max 4 (if it is filmed soon)
Ocean's 12 (possibly out next year)

The originator also forgot at least one film:

American Wedding (American Pie 3)

Really? X2 and the Matrix Reloaded are making this summer exciting for me. Toss in Revolutions and Return of the King to close out the year, and its a great movie year :)

I think the point of his statement was every year you hear the same comment:

200_, Year of the sequels.

Maybe if they didn't shove us the same PR every year we would actually say "wow" when a year comes that there is more sequels then the previous one. Since I've been told for the past few summers that it's the year of the sequels, it has become numb to the statement.

i'll for sure be seein...

X2
T3
Bad Boys II
Matrix: Reloaded & Revolutions
Dumb & Dumberer (gotta give it a shot)
Return of the King
American Wedding

Alternate title for this thread could be:

2003- Year of the all the hollywood movie producers with no original thought.

I mean, why else would there be all these sequels, prequels and remakes?

In any case, I will check out these:

x-men 1.5 + .5 (ya know, for the subtext. Yeah, that's it)
charlie's angels 2: the wrath of demi moore
the beginning of the exorcist beginning
freddy vs. jason vs. paramount studio heads who release cut versions of friday the 13th films on dvd.
Jeepers creepers 2: jeepin'
Once upon a time in mexico (...i kissed salma hayek and woke up next to the taco bell dog and kinda liked it)

the rest i'll check out on dvd, where the only lines will be the resoultion on my t.v. Plus my popcorn will be fresh, not kept overnight in a huge garbage bag after being popped and then reheated.

Already saw Final Destination 2, loved it.
I will be there opening night for X2, T3, FvJ, JC2, and RotK. As an extreme Jason fanatic over the last 15 years, FvJ is my most-anticipated movie this year.
At some point I will go see American Wedding and Scary Movie 3, but they're not high priority. I had no idea about The Whole Ten Yards - enjoyed The Whole Nine Yards, so I'll see it sometime.

I thought Barbershop was decent, I just don't see a need for a sequel.

Tscott 05-02-03 12:11 AM

It seems like every year there's some story about all the sequels coming out. Yes there's a lot, but also there'll be a lot of "original" films as well- they just don't get the advanced press that the sequals do because they don't have the built in name recognition.
