TCM - Newly Restored Metropolis 5/5

Just saw a commercial on TCM for a newly restored version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis that will make it's TCM premier on Monday night, May 5th at 8:00 PM EST.

Metropolis has long been on my to-see list, but sadly I must admit that I have never seen this classic. I am quite geeked up over the fact that I will finally get a chance to see it next week!

Sweet, I need to see it as well. Thanks for the info.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time - a true gem. Images and techniques used in this movie have echoed through subsequent movies for over 70 years now, and this restoration is a treasure!

cool beans, I know there has been some criticsim that the restored print of the film seems a tad too sped up - is this really that apparent.

bump to remind myself and others interested in seeing this.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I got this on DVD a few weeks ago   ... KINO did a great job on the restoration!

The first time I saw it in '97 was in color and with the Queen soundtrack.

Then I got the $8 Macady version (which was horrible) which I sold on eBay two months ago for $6, and then got the new one.

IMHO, one of the best concepts ever made for a film.

Hour and a half away!

If you miss it tonight, Metropolis will air again at midnight on 5/18/03 as part of TCM's Silent Sunday Nights.

Buford T Pusser 05-05-03 10:57 PM

Damn! How long was the movie? The TCM website said 88 min. and I had a tape with 108 min. so I thought I was safe. But it ran out before the flick was over.

Guess I'll get it on 5/18.

ToddSm66 05-06-03 12:22 AM

It ran just a little over 2 hours.

Amazing film, I'm ashamed it took me so long to see this. There are so many silent films that I've been missing out on, I really need to start visiting that era more often. I'll be running out to pick up this DVD for sure as soon as I can.

In regards to "Ben Hur" is the TCM showing the 143 minute version or the restored 151 version as mentioned in the IMDB link?
