It seemed like this movie was doomed from the beginning simply b/c of its R rating. It's a movie for bored teenagers with nothing to do like most of what's on MTV. And since the movie's target audience is unable to go see it, how did they think they would make money on this thing? I'm sure it'll do well on dvd though.

yeah but that still doesnt justify it. how does it affect you if it does well or not. just dont see it if you dont want to. shouldnt bother you at all.

Yep. I read the same thing in today's NY Post..I pray it keeps up and it's a sign of GOOD things to come..

But, then again I don't care since it doesn't affect me..

Not really, i asked why this movie bombing at the box office matters to you, at least enough to start a thread on it. If X-Men 2 bombed and i started a thread happy about it i dont think it would be taken lightly.

Actually it did bomb. Yes, it was in under 2000 screens, which isn't enormous but it's hardly what you would call a "limited release." The most telling factor when the screens aren't up to normal levels for movie is it's per screen average, and at a paltry average of $2,539 it didn't do so well. Now the Real Cancun...that REALLY bombed, with a $1,017 per screen average.

This message is for you and funmanstan.

Justify what? It doesn't affect me at all personally. Does everything affect you that you discuss? (here or otherwise). I've already answered your question about seeing the movie. And it bombing doesn't bother me at all. In fact, it thrills me. Hence this thread. It would worry me if it did well, because that would open the door for countless more just like it. None of this is keeping me up at night or is going to change my life. I follow box-office numbers daily. These things are discussed here quite often. Now, would you two drop it?

An upcoming film that looks worse than this is the one starring those two corporate puppets from "American Idol". Yuck.

WHAT? What is your point?? That it shouldn't matter to me had this movie been a success, it would have spawned dozens of others like it? Please help me understand exactly what I'm missing here. Anyone. For the last time (hopefully), this isn't some life affecting (or threatening) situation for me. But I do CARE about the quality of films that get made. Or worse, the good one's that get lost and shuffled because of crap like this! Geez.

To the trolls who are hijacking this thread. Take your
non-sense elsewhere. The questions you keep asking, I
could ask you well. If you don't care about the
subject matter, why are you here? You don't like the
topic, don't read it. How does this effect you? It
shouldn't matter to you either.

This isn't trolling at all. I never said i didn't care about the subject matter, I asked a question that STILL hasn't been answered. Why are you so excited about a movie bombing? THAT part of the thread interests me. I've only got one coherent reply about the possibility of many more 'reality' movies coming out. Lighten up.

Thanks be, a small sign that American audiences won't automatically eat whatever sh*t is shoveled down their throat.
Amen brother! They've been running an ad every single commerical break on MTV for it. I like to see a movie flop despite over-advertising.

are you not reading all the responses?!?

There are plenty of people who do not like the exploitation of everyday people in the form of "reality TV." They certainly don't want to see the trend of "reality movies" beginning.

If "The Real Cancun" is a raging success, we'll surely see A LOT more of these types of movies (something many people don't want to see). If "The Real Cancun" is a failure, it'll probably make a lot of studios think twice about releasing these types of movies.

And from what I hear from word of mouth, those 17 year olds aren't going to tell their buddies. I expect a thousand theater drop off with a gross next weekend without it hitting a million. People have the right to talk about numbers because it is fun. We are interested in the buisness aspect, too and if it doesn't affect you well then, leave this post and don't write a stupid reply crying and arguing with me because I am tired of you people always looking for posts and go "HAHA", time to be the evil guy on this thread. So, now I leave time for the evil guy with his ridiculous complaint on why the movie doesn't affect him because really the film doesn't affect me either but I am not going to trash someone's thread because it didn't.
and....... breath.

I for one would greatly hope such a movie fails miserably at the box office. How does it affect me? What if this movie was a huge success, and down the road some studio decided to greenlight a Real Cancun copycat movie instead of fund something that I might actually give a rat's ass about? That is why I love seeing crappy movies fail. Anyone who can't see that shouldn't even bother clicking on threads like these, let alone troll them.

I just don't think its trolling when i'm asking a plausible question. Not sure why you're hinging on the fact that i shouldn't have clicked this thread, as it's interesting to me to see how movies do. That should be reason enough. Anyway...

Many of you here may dislike a 'reality' movie like this, but there's obviously an audience for them as reality tv is still going strong. American Idol 2 and Co. still lead the ratings week in and week out. This movie just wasn't the right type of reality movie with the right appeal to be successful. I know i wouldn't watch it either. But oh well.

Also, aside from internet advertising i've seen very little commericals for the movie on TV. I don't think that because this movie bombs that it will be representative of any possible future reality movies.

I'm happy to see a "reality movie" about spring break bomb because if it had been hugely successful, I believe it would signal the downfall of civilization as we know it. So there you go.

In any case, following the trend of recent box office bombs, I think the DVD release date will probably be announced within the week, and will probably be less than 6 months away, if that. They'll rush to get it out because it will likely make all of its money back and even perhaps turn a profit through DVD sales and rentals before the year is out.
