I don't know why I'm surprised every time I see hoards of DVDtalkers hating on a movie they haven't seen... I should be used to it by now. Not the type of movie that I'd go pay to see in the first place, and I don't care if the film makes money or not. I don't care if they make 100 more films just like it either.

FYI, MTV has absolutely nothing to do with this, except maybe some promotional tie-ins.. they actually passed on the idea and instead New Line (the studio responsible for Lord of the Rings, the Matrix, and Austin Powers) picked up the bill... *shrug* go figure.

Went to see Confidence last night and peeked into Real Cancun because it was playing in the next theater. Saw about 4 people in there for the 7:00 showing. I think even teenagers might be avoiding this one.

This one ain't doing so well. Maybe 3 mil tops for the weekend. On the other hand, it probably cost close to nothing to make. I'm sure the advertising budget on this was bigger than the production budget. Seriously though, sure it sucks, so just avoid it. I'll prolly watch it someday when I'm drunk and it's on tv, it's prolly amusing enough for that. But if it's not your cup o'tea, than avoid it. Don't worry, the world isn't ending because it exists. And, since hte box office seems to be pretty dismal, I don't suspect we'll see a massive amount of these anymore. Reality tv has no real place in a theater. It's not cinematic, and when the main sell is a bunch of girls in thongs sleeping with each other, who wants to watch that with a whole bunch of people in a dark theater. This stuff belongs on home video.

The number I heard for the budget was $7.5 mil. Which seems ridiculous, although the logistics behind this makes it more expensive than a typical documentary. First, they probably put at least a mil into the place they had these kids in. Then you figure they probably had at least a dozen cameras going at all times. They had 16 kids to follow around constantly, etc. They also probably had to pay up some premiums to night club owners and whatnot for free reign.

I'm glad to see this is bombing, although it will probably do alright on video. It really was an odd decision to put this in theaters. The Real World skews more to a female audience, but they hype the T&A aspect. Now, a real movie (no pun intended) with T&A is one thing, but who seriously wants to go to a theater just to get aroused? Isn't that what home video and internet porn are about?

It is officially Movie Forum sanctioned, you cannot and will not see this movie. Under any condition.
So let me get this straight. If I say I saw this movie, you'll never post in these threads again?

Hmmmm.

Yeah, so Friday night we were supposed to see Identity. But wouldn't you know it, the every single show got sold out. We've seen pretty much everything else, so we just saw The Real Cancun. . .

I just rented and watched this show. If you like reality TV, this is worth a rental. Lot's of T&A, plus watching the interactions of the kids was pretty interesting.

I'm not saying that I though it should have been nominated for any Oscars, but it is worth a rental, if you like reality TV.

Oh, one more thing, if you do rent it watch the deleted scenes.

I'll throw this in spoiler tags just because it is something that you do wonder about as you watch this movie, but Alan, the guy from Texas who has never drank alcohol or had sex,
Spoiler:
does get laid (as well as drinks).
.

One thing though, this was supposed to be following 16 kids, but it concentrates amost exclusively on 9 or 10 of them, it's like the others dropped off of the face of the earth. Oh well, I guess they didn't do anything interesting.
