'Knight Rider' coming to big screen'

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The 1980s television series "Knight Rider" and its crime-busting, talking car are revving up for the big screen.

The drama starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, owner of the high-tech Pontiac Trans Am known as K.I.T.T. The car's voice was supplied by William Daniels.

The film is planned as an action comedy, Daily Variety reported Monday.

This time, Hasselhoff will serve as executive producer for the Revolution Studios project, the trade paper said. Glen A. Larson, who created the TV show, is among the producers.

It's not yet known who will star in the film

I am speechless.

Well if movies with "Cars" as a highlight has taught us anything we should expect the new KITT to be:

The new BMW Z4 or the New Lexus!

Geofferson 04-15-03 11:29 AM

Oh boy.

Fok 04-15-03 11:32 AM

I think this movie will naturally fall into a comedy as everyone will be laughing their a$$es off.

JoeyOhhhh 04-15-03 12:38 PM

As Garth Knight is a character in the film I'm all for it. :D

tanman 04-15-03 12:50 PM

I heard this and an A-Team movie was in the works back when Charlie's Angels came out.

Since it was reported in Variety does this more or less mean that this is definately happening?

Chew 04-15-03 01:08 PM

If this goes along the lines of parody, like The Brady Bunch movie, it could be good. Especially if Hasselhoff changes his mind to star in it.

jiggawhat 04-15-03 01:11 PM

I remember there was a post awhile back about this movie and apparently he is going to add matrix-like SFX. Imagine the possibilities. Michael Knight dodging bullets. Can't wait for this. ;)

necros 04-15-03 01:13 PM

I'm just waiting for the Manimal movie

sho kosugi 04-15-03 02:03 PM

Yes! It's about damned time!

Wonder if they'll re-issue the toys? They kicked arse!!! Why not get Ben Affleck for Michale Knight? Affleck's good in anything. ;)

DRG 04-15-03 09:15 PM

Perhaps they can get Seann William Scott and Ashton Kutcher to star... "Dude, Where's my KITT?" :)

Actually, based on the limited information, I foresee something like this...

Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff still) is about to embark on the mission of his life involving some sort of chemical weapon in a remote controlled vehicle that's set to go off VERY SOON, when a wisecracking small-time car thief (Dave Chappelle) somehow steals KITT at a gas station. The thief goes on an adventure... at first the car freaks him out and tries to oust him, but he gets a hacker buddy to reprogram KITT to obey him. Soon he's using the car to pick up girls, scare his enemies and people he owes money to, etc. Knight Industries finally locates KITT, and the deadly event is fast approaching. Unfortunately, KITT only listens to the thief now, and there's no time to reprogram him, so the thief must take KITT and save the day!!!

Oh, and part of the reprogramming would be KITT now would occasionally use street slang like "What up, biyotch?" and "Your ride is off da hook!" Same voice, though. ;)

It wouldn't surprise me...

This project has been in the works for a long time actually ....

For any of you domestic car guys that are on the board I read a post over at LS1.com a year or so ago about this studio asking General Motors to provide a new Pontiac Trans Am to do this project. However, GM already planned on retiring the Trans-Am/Firebird/Camaro(Fbodies) in 2002 and told them no!! Most of the fbody guys were enraged b/c GM never advertised these cars, and passed on this great oppurtunity to remake the Trans-Am name for the purists who were sick of GM's marketing tactics.

Just some interesting info I thought I'd pass along. Chances are if this project finally gets done it will not be a Trans Am as a Co-Star.

I am sure this flick will have to have two things to make it complete:

1)David Hasselhoff doing some sort of torch passing to whomever plays the new Knight Rider.

2) A wise cracking side-kick, preferably along the lines of Chris Rock or Bernie Mac.

In terms of who could play the lead, if I were seriously looking to cast, I would try David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel). Replace a David with a David.

P.S. What does KITT stand for?

DarthMaul420 04-15-03 11:17 PM

I have no idea what KITT stands for b/c I havn't seen the show in over a decade. The Mechanic that helped create the "stunt double" cars for the series lives and has a shop within five miles of my house. There were seven of them the first year. Each performed one different thing. :)

Knight Industries Two Thousand.

Worked for the Federation for Law And Government (FLAG).

DarthMaul420 04-16-03 01:33 AM

HA good work! All I can remember from this show is the car,the trailer, David H, and the guy who voiced KITT was the principle on Boy Meets World.

I remember KARR. He was a bada$$ mofo by 80s TV standards. He was like KITT except with a yellow light and somewhat different colors (in his first appearance at least). Out of curiousity, what did KARR stand for?

chanster 04-16-03 04:43 PM

Does anybody remember that God awful TV movie "Knight Rider 2000" that was on about 6 years ago or so. I remember they dragged KITT out of a LAKE?!@## and transplanted his mind into a new car. I think Hasselhoff was in that..I can't be sure though.

6? You been in a coma? that movie came out like 12 years ago. I swear Hasselhoff did that before he went to the slow-mo boob show.

Sure....i can hear it now:

KITT: Michael...you were the bomb in "Phantoms", Yo!

CPA-ESQ. 04-17-03 08:47 AM

Knight Automated Roving Robot -- KARR.

KARR was the same as KITT but lacked one important feature: the programming to protect human life!!

UAIOE 04-17-03 12:27 PM

This reminds me of the WereCar episode of "Futurama" it was something like:

"the car was built with the most evil parts of the most evil cars in the world.....

Calculon: They used the windshield wipers from that car from Knight Rider.

Fry: Hey, that car was good!

Calc: The car was good, the windshield wipers were evil. It wasnt brought up much on the show.
