William Zabka - America's Bully

We all knew him in our school - the jock who thought he ruled the world. Well, I don't know the real Zabka, but I do know that between 1984 and 1986 he was probably feeling like, well, like he ruled the world!

Think of it: The Karate Kid in 1984 was a huge blockbuster, and he was on the set with none other than Rodney Dangerfield filming Back To School in 1986. His success was intense during this period of his life, and I don't think we could possibly understand just how poisonous and sweet this emotion could be.

I envision Billy Zabka in 1985 like this: driving his cheery-apple red corvette convertible at 75 mph with the top down and the stereo way up. On the speakers is The Power of Love by Huey Lewis & The News and he's feeling pretty goddamned good about himself.

I say its a good thing that Zabka didn't have a crystal ball in 1985 to tell him that his success in films was not going to last much longer. He felt like a mountain, I'm sure, and I say good for you! We should all feel so mighty, if only for a short while.

He's one of my favorite 80's scumbags. And I mean that in a good way.

Honk!

That sucks, man, I did my best. I said I did my best. No man, you're the loser.

At least he apologized after the tournament

He was also in European Vacation - don't think he was a bully though.
