The Pagemaster - Why did did it take so long to make?

1994's The Pagemaster too FOREVER to make. I can remember seeing trailers for it three years before it finally came out.

Can anyone tell me why it took so darn long to come out? (Don't know what made me think of this, just now...)

coz it sucked? hehehe, just kidding. i really don't know. maybe coz animation back then was so difficult or expensive for a non-Disney studio. It was non-Disney studio right? But probably in the end, it suffered from the usual studio run-around, not enough budget, overspending, egotistical child stars, too many producers, it was really common during that time, and probably still is. But i remember they really made a big thing about delayed productions during that time. Waterworld, Last Action Hero... the only one that was able to break the over budget/delayed movie taboo was Titanic.
