wasn't bowling for collombine also for best original screenplay?

I thought that was one of the awards that it was nominated for but I didn't see it listed when they anounced it. Wild speech also by Moore

Documentaries don't have screenplays

Moore's do:

2003
Won
WGA Award (Writers Guild of America, USA)

When they're wall to wall narraration they do.

Yet another reason that this IS NOT a documentary. It is an essay film at best.

If Bowling is a documentary, then when Conan O'brien does his little "bits" on the street THAT'S A DOCUMENTARY TOO

I see. So a film that looks at World War 2 using archival footage, interviews, narration, and that carefully plans out what aspects of the war to cover is not a documentary?

I don't believe that documentaries are limited to just "being there with a camera" type films.

You're right. I was thinking of screenplays as the lines performed by actors.

Regardless of what you think of it, the screenplay win at WGAE is highly unorthodox and is the exception, not the rule. Comparing the Bowling "screenplay" to those of other films is even more apples/oranges than usual. I think they just did it to be showy, really.

Moore's film is definitely a documantary, although that is a very broad category that includes disspasionate statements of fact and propagandistic advocacy pieces alike.

I thought I remeber reading that this is like the first documentary to be nominated for original screenplay and it didn't show?
