I Need Some Help Identifying Some Footage...Possibly Movie or TV Related

My friends and I were watching some old Metallica videos and we all wondered where the footage in the video "ONE" came from. Throughout the video you see all sorts of clips....one of a kid talking to his dad about democracy....another of a bomb going off near a soldier.......doctors standing over a patient with no legs, arms and is bandaged all over. I know that the footage adds to the actual song but where did this come from?? Are they clips from actual movies??

Thanks for any help you can offer

Thanks!!! I appreciate it !! Back then I never really payed much attention to the words of the song(I wasn't much into Metallica) but after seeing the video and actually hearing the song I found it quite disturbing and sad at the same time. Thanks!

I rented that movie after the "One" video first came out (jeez, I feel so old).

I didn't enjoy it at the time (but, of course, I thought Beavis and Butthead was the pinnacle of culture at the time (I was listening to Metallica)) but I'm a little more appreciative of such movies now. Have to see if it's available on DVD.
