Superman Replacement ????

Well I just read new article about up coming Superman movie.
The studio having difficulty to cast actor for superman role.
So, who do you think the best actor to play that role ?

thecrazydude 03-16-03 01:52 AM

Paul Walker might be a good superman.

Trigger 03-16-03 01:53 AM

Nicholas Cage - agree - too old
Jude Law - too skinny
Josh Harnett - too ugly
Ashton Kutcher - hahahaha... get real
Paul Walker - too blonde & dumb surfer
Brendan Fraser - too goofy
Mathew Boomer - who??

I picked Joe Rogan (host of Fear Factor) cuz he's buff and cool and looks like Superman to me.

http://www.joerogan.net/gallery/sm_joelive01.jpg

Maybe he need a little Rogaine, but he could still pull it off.

DumDum 03-16-03 01:59 AM

It's just hard for me to picture anyone other than Reeve playing Superman. Of the availible choices, I would say Josh Hartnett. But since he's decided not to go with the project, another possibility could be Ben Affleck....although I don't know how much he would want to be playing superheroes in every flick he does.

flippo 03-16-03 02:09 AM

Matthew Boomer is a soap actor and he is not really famous yet :)

Kudama 03-16-03 03:41 AM

I voted "other" because I'm too egotistical: ME
dude!
(like Jesus, I would have heat vision!)

MaudlinHarold 03-16-03 05:58 AM

Nicholas Cage - a bit old and a bit awkward looking (not to mention he likes talkin' funny in his films:))
Jude Law - too angular and he always seems to have a devilish smirk
Josh Harnett - moot point, he's out.
Ashton Kutcher - maybe in a Bizarro world [Insert "Dude, where's my ______" joke here].
Paul Walker - looked at his fansite to see who he is. Hard to say.
Brendan Fraser - kind'a goofy and kind'a dough-y.
Mathew Boomer - haven't found anything about him, so duno.

Hands down Chrsitian Bale.

He's got the acting talents. He's diverse and can play the nervous goof and then change over totally and play a brute force character, and then flip to someone with fellings and charisma. He's also got the body for it.

PS: I'm not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Very Nice!

 As Superman i mean!

The Antipodean 03-16-03 11:22 AM

A complete unknown is the only way to go.

MurraySiskind 03-16-03 11:26 AM

It makes me sad that Ashton Kutcher is even in the running.

Amadeus 03-16-03 11:35 AM

Ashton Kutcher! :yack:

edytwinky 03-16-03 11:46 AM

I like Ashton and all but if he's Superman, all I'm going to think about during the movie is, "dude...where's my car?"

greatjedi 03-16-03 12:05 PM

I read that another actor up for consideration is:

Hayden Christensen

He's fine as Anakin, but. . . no not Superman -ohbfrank-

fumanstan 03-16-03 12:09 PM

According to most of the rumors its down to Bomer and Fraser. Personally, i think Bomer looks the part more than anyone else mentioned.

GuessWho 03-16-03 01:10 PM

my vote:

Dean Cain

Some scenes of Fraser in a suit and glasses in The Quite American made me think him a good Clark Kent, but not necessarily Supes. Never heard of Bomer, so he might be the way to go if you want to re-invent it with an unknown like they did with Reeve.

uh, he sucked ass in star wars, he is too stiff as an actor.
I'd go with either a complete unknown, Collin Ferrell, or Crispen Glover.

Frelledup 03-16-03 05:58 PM

I think the unknown guys should get it. As much as I like some of the other actors, I dont think they are right for the role. Go with the soap opera guy, Boomer!
From what I have been reading they are going to re tell the whole story of Kal-El/Superman and I think thats a mistake. They should just go right to the Superman stuff.

Ashton. No
Brendan Frasier. No

Unknown!

Goldberg74 03-16-03 08:44 PM

For the last time....

<font size="+3">JEREMY NORTHAM!!!!</font>

<font size="1">Oh wait, you guys are talking about Superman, not James Bond... my bad!</font>

If you had read the review of the alleged script J.J. Abrahams wrote, you would :yack: It really seemed as if he intended to butcher the mythos for all it was worth. I can only hope this was a false review, as it was posted at Aint It Cool News.

UKingdom 03-16-03 11:11 PM

I think the pics they've shot of Bomer make him look like the prototypical Superman...

No matter who plays the role, they will become famous because of it. Having said that, it's best to cast an unknown since they will bring something new to the table, and fanboys won't complain about how so and so sucks or isn't right for the role.

Bomer

This guy looks like he was made for the role.

Chad 03-17-03 12:03 AM

I've always thought Bruce Campbell would make a great Superman, although he's probably too old for the part. He definitely has the look and the chin.

http://www.houseofhorrors.com/bruce.jpg

Or they could reinvent the series, and take it in an entirely different direction...

Fok 03-17-03 12:41 AM

Anyone except for Nicolas Cage. How could they consider a guy with droupy lips and dufus look to be the next Superman.

Bomer

He looks like he's about 16 in that pic. We're not going for Superboy here. Still, better to have an unknown instead of someone of whom people have a pre-conceived notion.

I still hope Ratner backs out of this project though.

darkflounder 03-18-03 11:09 PM

You need a complete unknown. Somebody that doesn't bring baggage to the role.

At the time, Christopher Reeve was absolutely perfect in the tights. And he hadn't been in much before Superman.

And now to throw in the obligatory flame-worthy opinion.

Ben Affleck can do Superman. He can do anything (including Jennifer Lopez) :)

mrhan 03-19-03 09:50 AM

I heard on the news this morning that Brenden Frasier might not do the role since he doesn't want to commit to a 7 year contract to do the sequels. It's not as if he hasn't done a sequel before.

Dr. DVD 03-19-03 11:15 AM

Just cast Bomer. It would be cheaper and he can become an instant celebrity.

My sentiments exactally... just use the leftover money to get a "Hollywood" name for the villian!

That is what they did the first time around. I think Hopkins is already Jor-El. I just hope they get someone who can effectively pull off Luthor the way Hackman did back in the day.

Sunday Morning 03-20-03 09:10 PM

Marlon brando should play superman.

Of course they would have to fix the script a little bit to accomendate his casting.
:)

funkymonk 03-21-03 03:23 AM

i say the guy from smallville...that'd be awesome....like a movie based on the TV show and the movie

warpcorebreach 03-21-03 11:31 AM

Heres the latest rumors. I think the studio should go with an unknown.
Brendan Fraser is a great actor but totally wrong for Superman and a distraction too.

From Dark Horizons...

"This project is still very much a go-picture. There should be a new director within days. It's been known that Brett was leaving the picture for quite a while, so other directors have been on stand-by per se. The problem between the studio and Brett was that Brett likened a young actor named Matthew Bomer for the role, believing an unknown might work. Unfortunately, the studio didn't see this way and were determined to cast Brendan Fraser in the role. At the end of the day, it was an unwinnable fight - and both parties caved in. Another actor was bought in named David Boreanaz, who stars in television's "Angel". Both quite liked David, and believing that his series mightn't be coming back for another season - was eager to do it. But at the 11th hour, word was through that his series would be continuing and he wouldn't have time to do the film. There are rumours that they liked David though, so are considering him for the next "Batman" movie which "Memento" genius, Chris Nolan is doing. An official announcement should be through on that shortly. As it stands there are a couple of contenders, a young man named Henry Cavill is in talks this week, and seems to be going well there. Unfortunately it's not certain whether Anthony Hopkins will play the role of Jor-El, he was merely doing that as a favour to Brett, and with Brett not involved it's all a bit up in the air".

WB should let Smallville go a couple more years then do the movie with Tom. He's already established as Clark... why change it now?

Didn't Reeve already pass the torch on the show?

warpcorebreach 03-21-03 05:55 PM

I dont know the Bomer guy but he sure had the look.

squidget 03-21-03 07:10 PM

Dean Cain.
he did once let him do it again on the big screen.

(side note: I recently got tivo and now record lois & clark and watch daily. mmm dean cain)
