Keanu Reeves in The Watcher

I know im in the minority here but i for one am a huge Keanu Reeves fan (look at my sig!), but i do understand that hes not the greatest actor, or not even that good as a matter of fact. But once in a while he manages to shine in some of his movies. I was watching the The Watcher (get it!) the other day and its not a very good movie. I thought it had potential but fell very short, but i thought his performance was quite eerie. I think he brought his keanu-ness to that role but in a good way. He managed to make that character interesting, too bad the movie couldnt support it. What do you guys think? If you didnt dig his performance in this flick, which one did ya dig?

Alien Redrum 03-10-03 01:00 AM

I am not a huge Keanu fan, but I do agree that he did surprisingly well in The Watcher.

Also, I think he was even better in The Gift although it was a smaller role.

Buttmunker 03-10-03 12:09 PM

Was he a wife abuser in both those movies?

Well he was one in The Gift but in The Watcher he was just a serial killer who targeted women.

Trigger 03-10-03 06:27 PM

I'm alone in thinking he's actually a good actor. :)

buckee1 03-10-03 06:30 PM

I enjoyed him in both Chain Reaction and the Watcher. I think he's a decent actor. If he makes me forget he's Keanu and I believe he's the guy he's portraying on screen then, he's done a good job in my book.

He was the bomb in Speed.

Skank 03-10-03 10:17 PM

And here I was thinking The Watcher was universally considered crappy.

kian69 03-10-03 11:11 PM

I really really like Keanu. Okay so, he's not exactly an Academy Award threat to the Tom Hanks or to the Jack Nicholsons but still a good actor in my book. He's pulled off some good performances in some very enjoyable movies, one of which is my favorite movie ever (hmm guess which one??? :D).

audrey 03-10-03 11:34 PM

I’m neither a huge fan, nor detractor of Keanu; like most of Babylon, he’s had his share of crow and caviar. My favorite performances: Bill & Ted, My Own Private Idaho, and Devil’s Advocate. Sorry, I pretty much hated The Watcher. The weak script didn’t help, but IMO Keanu did not rise above the material. In fact, no one in that movie turned in a memorable performance.

Xytraguptorh 03-10-03 11:39 PM

I thought he was great in Point Break as well as a most of the other titles mentioned. I'm not saying he deserves any Academy Awards, but he's usually decent in the roles he chooses.

fumanstan 03-11-03 01:37 AM

I'm a fan of many Keanu movies... Bill and Ted, the Matrix, Point Break... i watched the Watcher and The Gift but i dont remember much about them for some reason, although i remember i wasnt turned off by Keanu's acting :P

thegame370 03-11-03 02:52 AM

Since we're on the subject, my fav. movies of his are as follows:

Point Break
Devil's Advocate
The Matrix

but i think is best acting performance was in The Gift.

It was crappy, but Keanu's performance wasn't all that bad.

Skank 03-11-03 10:35 AM

It's been scientifically proven that your IQ drops dramatically after watching this piece of crap.

Mysteryfan 03-11-03 03:06 PM

Some of my favorite Keanu movies:

The Replacements
The Gift
Matrix
Speed

But he was awful in Little Buddha and Sweet November

Buttmunker 03-11-03 05:05 PM

Ah, we mustn't forget his role in 1989's "Parenthood." That's prime Keanu right there. Kind of sweet, actually. He befriends little Joaquin Phoenix and wins over the mother Diane Wiest.

tanman 03-13-03 01:52 AM

I am among those who think he is a horrible actor, but, he can be cast well. such as.

Speed
The Matrix

I have since thought of Ben Affleck as the same way and thought he was cast well in Daredevil.

conscience 03-13-03 02:11 PM

Horrible, Horrible actor and film.

But I do love Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

For the reason, that you can't take it too seriously.

He was better than his usual in The Gift, though.

I'll give him that.

Good day.

harosa 03-24-03 07:58 AM

Well, considering that his role was extended from a minor role, which pissed him off he's said in interviews, it was not that bad a performance, I thought the lack of his participation was evident in the way the movie ended too rapidly.

I agree. Did see The Watcher and must admit that movie creeped me out. Keanu's performance wasn't bad the script just wasn't strong enough. He was also good in Parenthood, haven't seen The Gift.

Alien Redrum 03-24-03 08:02 PM

I think Keanu's performance is dependant upon who he is cast with.

For example, as much as I loved The Matrix, I though Keanu's performance was horrible. However, he had a lot of screen time with Lawrence Fishburne, a much better actor.

While on Point Break, his screen time was split between Gary Busey and Patrick Swayze. Hence, he (Keanu) didn't seem to do to badly.
