And they advertised the hell out of it. Ads that contained lots, and LOTS, of critical praise.
They were in the 36% that liked it heh.

Geez, what a drop for Cradle 2 the Grave; from number one to six! I suppose partly that has to do with the very strong opening competition, as well as most people who wanted to see it already saw it last weekend.

This line from a box office report ( http://movies.yahoo.com/news/va/2003...725809000.html ) cracked me up...
""House," Walt Disney Co.'s lively satire of racism in America, grossed $31.7 million in Friday-through-Sunday ticket sales, according to industry box office service Exhibitor Relations."
Lively satire of racism in America??? Isn't that like calling Sorority Boys "a witty satire of gender roles in contemporary college society"?

Color me surprised.
While the movie tried to nail both the urban audience and white audience, I though for sure it had succeeded in missing both. But I was wrong.
Oh well.
I didn't see it, but looks like a lot of people felt like it was there boat.

This is one of the bigger box office surprises I've seen in a while. I had no idea that many people really wanted to see Bring Down the House. Go figure

I'm really surprised that a comedy (especially one without any kung-fu scenes) would top a Bruce Willis action flick. Perhaps the age of the action flick is gone with Arnie's "Collateral Damage" doing very poorly at the box office?

Bruce Willis has been dead at the box office for a while. Look at what a bomb Hart's War was. In a few years he'll start pumping out the direct to video stuff, which is also known as "end of your career hell".
Just ask Van Damme.

I am absolutely shocked that this movie did so well at the box office. The commercials just seemed absolutely terrible to me, and usually I try not to say too many negative things about a movie unless I have actually seen it.

jarofclay - weird, I saw at least two ads an hour for the movie for like a month prior to its release, I guess it weighs heavily on what you watch.
Let's just say, I'm not in the CSI crowd.
