Requiem for a Dream-the closest I've ever heard a diss for this one only goes sumtin like this- "Just Not for Me" or "Just Not really my type of film". :)

Pants 03-07-03 02:01 PM

Grunter disses requiem pretty solidly all the time

davidlynchfan 03-07-03 02:29 PM

I guess I'll be stalking Grunter soon... :)
I just love reading Disses (of course I'm not the easily offended type).

kneijst1 03-07-03 02:31 PM

I'd actually replace Requiem for Donnie Darko, but that's just me. ;)

RyoHazuki7 just dissed Fight Club last night. And I doubt if it's the first time. I don't think ANY film has escaped ALL negative criticism. It is just not possible when opinions and tastes vary so widely.

drexel 03-07-03 03:48 PM

davidlynchfan, nice reverse psycology. The only film here that has never been dissed to my knowledge is the film of my sister's wedding and thats because you guys have never seen it.
Movies I love that I bet most would agree were well done for teir genre are Aliens
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Shawshank

By the way let me be the first to say on thnis thread all david lynch films are horrible jk:)

Chad 03-07-03 05:00 PM

Everything's been dissed on this forum at one time or another. But, you rarely hear complaints for Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, and Seven Samurai.

Rypro 525 03-07-03 05:06 PM

Pulp Fiction rarely gets complaints
Requiem for a dream
Iron Giant

marty888 03-07-03 05:11 PM

TOY STORY remains relatively unscathed on these pages.....

ryuryu2949 03-07-03 05:18 PM

Yea, I think Shawshank and Almost Famous are up there as well. And resevoir dogs does not belong---that movie is not enjoyable to me in the least.

Was what I was going to say. But you made it so I had to think about it, and I think I came up with a better one...

Has anyone ever had anything bad to say about The Wizard of Oz?

davidlynchfan 03-07-03 05:56 PM

 -Sweet one RyuHazuki San! -that was actually a 1st for me.

My logical sense to this would be that: Mean ppl don't watch Disney Animations. :)

-Agreed with just about all the additions.

Should I replace Requiem faD & Reservoir Dogs with Die Hard and Back 2 Da Future ? ;)

kian69 03-07-03 06:58 PM

Well there is no, ONE movie that never ever got "dissed". I mean there are heavy favorites, but there's always going to be a few that won't like it.

Although I think Back to the Future is a pretty safe bet.

And for the record:

FIGHT CLUB: okay, I'll admit it the ending was cool, but for me, that was it, and yes it IS overrated as a movie. I've seen endless better ones.

12 Monkeys: Whatever it was fine, nothing too extraordinary.

Reservoir Dogs: Didn't like it. Don't see what the fuss is all about with this one. Everything about it wasn't great, INCLUDING the ending.

Dark City: Again nothing too memorable.

Requiem for a Dream: Out of the 5 listed this is the worse IMO so that obviously shows how much I liked it. :)

inVectiVe 03-07-03 08:51 PM

I thought Toy Story failed on pretty much every possible level. OK, maybe the technology was cool, but I only needed to see a few seconds of it. And why would anyone want to hire Tom Hanks for voice work, when he has one of the most annoying male voices outside of Gilbert Gottfried?

Also, I've seen Shawshank dissed.....and I think the "offender" was again grunter (but that could *easily* be my faulty memory, so don't take this as my putting words in his mouth/keyboard). Whoever says it, I totally respect a Shawshank basher because, though I liked the film, it takes balls to dis it.

I get what your saying, but I wouldn't say it takes balls. I mean, it's not like Morgan Freeman is going to show up Jay and Silent Bob-style at your door and beat the living daylights out of you. -wink-

inVectiVe 03-07-03 09:07 PM

Don't put it past Morgan; after he got released, he traveled all the way to........ ;)

I hear ya, man. It's just a recurring theme with me, whether it's movies, music, TV, politics: Some opinions are hip and trendy; some aren't. Like, if your favorite album is Master of Puppets, you probably enjoy going online and telling everyone about it. But if it's Winger, you might feel a bit ashamed. :)

Goodburger!

WiccanPagan 03-08-03 01:19 AM

i'll throw my hat in to diss some of the ones recommended here.
donnie darko: created its own mythology/science to make the movie viable. pass.
seven samurai: it isn't even in english ;)
dark city: if i haven't seen it, it can't be that good.
most of the others i have no gripe with. and for those getting ready to flame me, feel free. it is all in good fun. :)

gcribbs 03-08-03 01:59 AM

The only reason I have never dissed 12 monkeys is because I must have missed the threads where people talked about it. I really did not like that movie at all.

In fact I would probably place it in my bottom 10 films.

Re: Top 5 Most Respected Movie at the Forum

FIGHT CLUB- I've seen it crapped on quite often, but I loved it.

12 Monkeys- I loved it.

Reservoir Dogs- I loved it - some people think Tarantino is a hack.

Dark City- I liked it, but I don't think this is respected as much as it is ignored.

Requiem for a Dream- I rag on this movie for stealing a scene from another movie (some would call it an homage, but I think that's bullsh**). Aside from that - I think it was decent, but way overappreciated.

Goodburger - I am the only one who will admit that this film sucks.

There was a thread not too long ago where people would share their unpopular opinion about a movie and I have a feeling that this thread will turn into that same thread.

hgar78 03-08-03 10:29 AM

siberianhusky 03-08-03 11:24 AM
