Movies that "show the future"

Ok, finally saw Minority Report last night (yeah, I'm late), but it made me think about movies that show the future.

Minority Report: Year 2054, made in 2001

Future Plot Device: precogs predict crime

Future Sights: vertical highways, eye scans, in your face advertising, virtural reality type mice (on your hands), etc.

I'd think it would be interesting to list movies that show the future, from their point of view - especially some older movies, to see how they "did"...

Back to the Future II: Year 2015, made in 1985

Future Plot Device: time travel

Future sights: Flying cars, hoverboards, large holographic ads, hydrators for pizza, automated houses

I'd say Back to the Future Part II's depiction of the future is closest to being on-the-money.

In part, it's because the whole movie didn't rely upon the future, and thus didn't have to be dramatically different enough to carry the story.

Another part is that they essentially went forward with a corporate-world-driven future. No, cars don't fly and we don't hydrate pizza, but I think the city's depiction is pretty grounded. All the TV channels, more automated stuff, etc.

Minority Report's grim future is pretty bizarre and unlikely, in my opinion. But unless this forum is still around in 2054, you'll have to take my word on that one.

Blade Runner
Future Synopsis: The future sucks

Running Man
Synopsis: Streches the idea that people will be entertained by reality tv where people get hurt and do stupid things (or was that the last fear factor?)

KNIGHT RIDER 2000.

Cities have not yet replaced guns with stun guns. Although some use a different version for the police. Dan Quayle is not president. TV's are not yet all widescreen, but thats getting close.

Wow Dah Dee you really did your homework.

Bicentennial Man - world full of robots that look like Robin Williams but only one has a heart (awwww.....)

Planet of the Apes - world overun with apes

Time Machine - shows a brief glimpse of nearby future with huge buildings. they blow up the moon then fast forward millenia and we are dwelling on cliffs with morloks eating the flesh off our bones.

Sixth day - I like "the chair"

Blade Runner: Forget 2019, LA looks like that NOW! except for the flying cars
The Running Man: Cops+Fear Factor+Big Brother=The Running Man

The classic Things To Come (1936).

But not necessarily an accurate predictor of the future. Space travelers are shot out of a giant gun!

Also the very quirky and odd A Boy And His Dog (1975) and Cherry 2000 (1987).

Battle Royale - It's not mentioned in the movie but it takes place in an alternate future where Japan won WWII.

And tv shows too - Quantum Leap - didn't that take place in the "future" of 1999?
